Week of Oct. 27-Nov. 2 (Week 22) & State Recap

State was an awesome end to a great season! We are so proud of the team that you all became. Your hard work and dedication to each other shined these last few weeks. There is no doubt we are Proud to Be PVXC!
Announcements:

  • If you are going to join us for Foot Locker, you must pay your $100 deposit by Monday (cash to Coach Holt or Venmo @Dave-Holt77)
  • We will start getting things together for the XC banquet. No date has been set yet. We are looking Parents to help organize and plan. Please send Coach Holt a message if you would like to help.
Purpose of the week's workouts - As our quote is going to bring this up, it is real important for everyone to keep running during the off-season (even if you aren't going to Phoenix or Cali - and same if you are doing a winter sport, run with us until you have tryouts). So over the next month, we will do a mini-cycle hitting big parts of all our macro-cycles... meaning we will start with a couple weeks of building up miles again while including some quick stuff throughout.

IF YOU HAVE PINE VIEW GEAR, WEAR IT TO PRACTICE!
and remember bright or white in the mornings is required

Here's our schedule for the week. We will be getting back into some morning stuff with shorter runs and weights, and we will move our long runs to Monday afternoons - all practices at PVHS unless noted, am practices we will meet by the glass room/weight room, afternoon practices we will meet under the marquee at the front of the school). Afternoon practices will generally run from 3:00p - 5:00p. Also, if any Youngsters want to join us, feel free to do so with whatever fits your schedule (since the HS season is over, you are legally allowed to run with us - just make sure your parents are cool with it).
Monday: am - 6:15a Easy run (Levels 2 and 3, no Level 1) / afternoon - 12:30p (everyone) Early out day. MSers get over to the HS quick - we'll be going up Turkey Farm if you happen to be late.
Tuesday: am - 6:15a weights and recovery run (Levels 2 and 3, 1 optional) / afternoon 3:00p (everyone)
Wednesday: am - 6:15a Easy run (Level 3, 2 optional, no Level 1 or Freshman/Sophomore) / afternoon 3:00p (everyone)
Thursday: 6:15a weights and recovery run (Levels 2 and 3, 1 optional) / afternoon 3:00p Halloween Run (everyone)
Friday:  am - 6:15 easy recovery run and yoga (Levels 2 and 3 optional, no Level 1 or Freshman) / afternoon 3:00p (everyone)

State - Another great State experience for PVXC. Congrats to both teams for their great efforts. Thanks to all our amazing supporters (family, friends, alumni) and the best HYPE SQUADS on the planet! We finished with 6th All-State runners and 4 Medalists: Jessica 2nd, Alli 8th, Adri 18th, Pyper 19th, and Luke 4th and Scottie 7th.
In the girls' race, we got out very well at a good controlled pace with Jess and Alli out front and the whole rest of the squad placed well in the front group. As the race progressed, each girl fought very well and defended her position and moved up at key places. When the final points were added, we were STATE CHAMPS! and by a large margin. This was our 6th straight year of finishing in the top 2 (the longest streak in Utah - also the 7th longest streak of top 5s in the state)

The boys saw a strong race up front by Luke, and a very well run race by Scottie as he moved up throughout the entire race. The rest of the group was a strong pack that continued to pass others throughout the race. Each of our runners moved up the entire race helping us place 4th overall. This is the 12th year in a row that Pine View has placed in the top 5 at State - a streak that is 2nd in Utah only to American Fork's 13 years!

Alumni Report -
Rylee finished up her XC season running for UVU at the University of Utah XC Open on Friday.

Quote of the Week -
"Distance runners - remember development takes time. The XC season starts in the track season. The track season is shaped by the XC season. Each season impacts the other - if you miss time during one, it will be reflected the following season. Do your best to keep showing up!"
-Jonathan J. Marcus
There it is... That is the message... If you want to be a strong runner in track, keep running now. If you want to reach your goals for next XC season, keep running now and in track. Keep running, Keep Running, KEEP RUNNING! The only reason to take significant time off in the off-season is for another sport (if you are wrestling or playing b-ball, go do awesome; we'll welcome you back in the spring; but other than that... guess what? Keep running!). Talk to your teammates who might be struggling a little and get them back out. We've got the opportunity to do even greater things next year than we did this year, but we need everyone to be all-in. And that all-in dedication starts now.
