Week of Oct. 7-12 (Week 19)

First, a big thanks to everyone who helped at the Marathon. Kylee did a great job organizing everything, we helped thousands of runners, and had a great time bonding as a team and giving back to the sport we love.
We're down to our last full week of practice before Region. Wow! Although, there were times that it seemed like it would never end, here we are nearing the completion of our season. Hopefully you find yourself with a positive mindset about it all - after all, you've earned it. There have been hundreds of hours running, and time put into pre and post run routines, weights, yoga, plyos, team dinners and camps, and on and on. And everyone of these things has prepared you to do your best in the next couple weeks. Be brave and ready to do your very best; you deserve it and have earned it!

Purpose of the week's workouts - In our Competition Phase, we see a continued cut in minutes (especially for those who will be peaking for Region) - we want to help you freshen up those legs and that mind a little. But, we still have plenty of work to do, so the workouts need to be crisp and on point. To help us accomplish this, let's try our very best to make sure we are healthy and rested. Get sleep, keep hydrated, and eliminate extra stress by keeping up on school work and studying (instead of trying to cram everything in).

IF YOU HAVE PINE VIEW GEAR, WEAR IT TO PRACTICE!
and remember bright or white in the mornings is required

Here's our schedule for the week - all practices at PVHS unless noted, am practices we will meet by the glass room/weight room, afternoon practices we will meet under the marquee at the front of the school). Afternoon practices will generally run from 3:00p - 5:00p.

Week 18 Athletes of the Week -
Team Builder - Sadie Taylor, Jr. - Sadie has really shined as a team builder this season. She has a great attitude and always supports everyone. She's put together quite a season of improvement in her running as well.
Tough at Practice - Ethan Gilmore, Jr. - Ethan has really pushed himself in practice the past few weeks. And with this hard work and beautiful hair, he's seen great improvement in his racing.
Best Performance - James Holt, Sr. - JD has solidified himself as a great #3 runner for our team. Coming into the season, he made a goal of wanting to score and contribute to the team and he has definitely done that.

Race Report -
Cedar Invite - We had a strong contingent of Youngsters up at XC, so we want to congratulate them on a strong race this past Friday. Westley took 6th overall on the boys side. On the girls side, Katie led the team with an 11th place finish. We are very excited to see this group move up to the HS over the next few years. In the HS races, Kennis led the way for our Fresh/Soph girls with a very strong 6th place finish. Also, Hannah continued her big improvements throughout the season with a good race. The Frosh/Soph were led by Keaton in 6th and Bentley in 9th. Another runner who has really improved this season and has been contributing a lot is Nic whose 5th place finish for the team helped the boys placed 2nd. The JV girls used a strong team pack with a spread of only 32 seconds between Emma, Allison, Kylee, Sadie, and Madeline to place 3rd. The JV boys placed 8th and were led by Matt and Elijah. The Varsity girls raced two other top ten ranked Utah teams and placed second behind 5th ranked American Fork. Jessica led much of the race and ended up 3rd, Alli was 8th. Brinley ran well in her first race back in a few weeks, and Kyanne and Addie ran well stepping up into the Varsity ranks. The Varsity boys took 4th following a tight pack from the top 3 schools. We had outstanding races up front from Luke (3rd) and Scottie (4th). JD continues to improve as a solid #3 with a 20th place finish. Then Dakota, Jason, and Tyler continue to improve in our final scoring spots. Caleb also had a solid race running showing his great improvement throughout his years of running for our program.

Youngsters Running Club - We are nearly finished with our MS XC season (see race schedule above). For questions email Coach Holt at pineviewxc@gmail.com. Youngsters race this Wednesday at 2450 Park at 5:30p.

Alumni Report - Carson traveled to Notre Dame this weekend for the Joe Piane Invite. Racing in the Open 5 Miler, Carson was 2nd Weber State runner and 31st overall with a time of 25:27. (This time would place him 9th overall for WSU.)

Thought of the Week: "I've learned that it was okay to take risks. That running isn't life or death; you can just go out and try really hard and the results are whatever they end up being."
-Scott Fauble
Sometimes, with all the effort and time we put into running, we forget this a little. And maybe we put so much into the whole thing that we're afraid that if the outcome isn't at such a level, we aren't a good enough person. Remember this though, running is just that... running. We all (well, most of us) love it so much, it is easy to forget that. The real value of running is the lessons we learn from it. In a way, this is what we talked about after the race on Friday. One of the great lessons we can learn from running is that we are part of a team - and in life we are on, and will be on, many teams - and you have to dig in and fight for that team, especially when things get tough. Although I haven't lived a full life, I've seen a lot, and I've seen a lot of tough times people go through. Unfortunately, all too often, people's first response to tough times (whatever they may be) is to give up. That is the exact opposite of what you should be doing. You should be fighting and pushing like no other time. If you care about a team (whatever that team is), you WILL do anything to help it, to make it successful. But you can't push through hard times without practicing pushing through hard times. So FIGHT FOR THIS TEAM, TAKE RISKS, BE BRAVE, DON'T GIVE UP! Because ultimately, the risks you take to help this team aren't going to be life and death - (if you struggle, at least you tried and can always be proud of that; and if you succeed, there will be amazing results) - but struggle or succeed, you will learn to fight for something bigger than yourself and doing that will make you an even better person than you already are.
