End of it All!

What an amazing season!  This was by far - and in every way - the greatest season we have ever had at PV!  Let's put couple updates on the championship racing season and then some info for the end of the season and transition to track.
PVXC Autumn Classic:
Not going to go into a ton of detail on this one, but the team totally killed it.  We place 6 girls in front of DH's #1 (their usual #2) and put 4 guys under the old course record.
PVXC Dream 1600:
Very solid times all around.  For not being in track shape, we ran pretty well.  Expect big things from everyone in track season.  Go to our results page on athletic.net for full results.
Nike Southwest:
The team had a great trip down to Phoenix for Nike Southwest.  The zoo was awesome, the hotels... not so much.  And the race, good stuff.  The JV girls ran very well in the Medium School Open Division placing 17th against mostly varsity competition.  Brianna led the way with a solid time of 20:17 and 45th place.  The JV guys also ran well placing 15th and led by Nathan's 17:02 38th place.  The Varsity girls then set a school record with their 8th place finish.  It was a tight race and our solid pack, led by Jessica's 19:14 and 37th place, proved the difference over many schools who had higher #1 finishers.  Finally, the Varsity boys ran and took 14th, our highest finish in 3 years; we were led by Dallen who placed 42nd with a time of 16:14.
Foot Locker West:
About 15 athletes made the trip to SoCal for the final race of the season.  Dallen, Carson and Mitch all ran great in the Seeded Boy's Race.  It was very impressive to see 5 Panther ladies in the Seeded Girl's Race; and Rylee, Jessica, Caroline, Ellie, and Josie all ran very well.  We also had great runs from Mikey in the Soph race, Alex and Logan in the Junior race, and our top performance was probably Julien's 5th place showing in the combined Sophomore races.

2 Week Break:
At some point in time, everyone needs to take a 2 week break from running - it's all about refreshing the body and mind.  Some may want more than 2 weeks; do it if you need to.  When your two weeks are up and you're ready (which might be now for some of you who started your break earlier) go ahead and start putting some minutes in.  The workouts for track will be posted on the track blog - so we all need to transition to that blog found at pvtrack.blogspot.com.  These workouts will start on the week of Dec 19th.  If you are running before that just be putting in some 30 minute runs.  By the 19th, everyone needs to be ready to hit 30-50 minute runs.  It is very important that everyone get their minutes in during those weeks of winter break.  We will have team practice on the 19th and 20th (the two days before the school break, but the rest of the time you will be on your own.  These two and a half weeks are our first weeks of base buildup for track... get your minutes in during this time!
During our two weeks off, we will be lifting on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  And some of the team will be playing ultimate frisbee on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Transition to Track:
I already said a bunch of stuff about training for track, so go back and re-read it!  Please make sure you are getting your runs in during the break... it is crucial to your success in track to come into January with those 2.5 weeks of base already buiding.
Secondly, we are changing our PVXC Remind to PVtrack Remind.  So following the link and get signed up for important announcements - www.remind.com/join/h84ak

Finally - pics are caught up (I think) so check them out and download/use any that you want!

Week 21 and State Recap

Just an absolutely amazing week for PVXC!  The State meet turned out to be our most successful ever.  The goal of the team all year was to have our best meet at State and we truly did.

The Rowdies were all over and making all sorts of noise for the Panthers and it had a huge influence.

The Girls claimed our first State Title since 2001.  And did so in record setting fashion.  Our 85:15 time was a team record by 2 minutes and the 4th fastest 3A time ever!  Our team got out strong and continually moved up throughout the race.  Leading the way was Rylee, who set a new school record on her way to claiming 5th pace.  Just behind her was Jessica who in taking 6th was the fastest Freshman in all divisions!  Caroline and Josie made 2nd Team All-State with their 8th and 11th place performances.  And Jacey (15th) and Ellie (19th) made 3rd Team All-State.  Addi also had one of her best races of the season and displaced scorers from every team but 3! The girls finished 4th in the Utah merge and defeated the #23 and 24 teams in the nation!

The Boys finished an unbelievable race just 4 points off DH.  In doing so, we placed 3 runners on 1st Team All-State: Carson (5th), Dallen (6th), and Mitch (7th); Julien as 2nd Team All-State; and Alex 3rd Team All-State.  And Logan and Spencer both displaced runners from every single team except DH!  Our team time was a new team record by nearly 30 secs over the 4A State Champion team of 2010 that was ranked as high as #13 in the nation and finished the season ranked #27!

Just one last thing, a huge thanks from the coaches for all that you have done this year.  Parents, thanks for trusting with your kids.  Hopefully we have had a positive influence on them (because they have on ours).  Athletes, thanks for your hard work and dedication.  You have not only grown a ton yourselves, you have helped others around you do things they never dreamed possible.  Those who are moving on to other winter sports... have fun!  We'll see you guys back at track in the spring.  Those who aren't doing a winter sport... Please keep coming out!  Whether you are going with us to Nike or not, keep coming out!  The only way to become a better runner is to run.  We love having all of you around and want you to keep being part of this program - through the winter, in the spring, and into next year and beyond.  Thanks Again!

Week 20 and Region Recap

Another great Region 9 Championship for PV!  Below are the results... we are so proud of how great all the Panthers ran.  So much hard work and time put in during the past 4 months paying off in the race.
The JV Girls ran a great race - congrats to Brianna and Alli for their 1, 2 finish!  And congrats to the whole group on taking 2nd (just 7 points back of DH)

Week 19 (REGION!) and Snow Canyon Recap

We had another awesome week.  Some solid workouts for the Varsity and great racing by the JV.  At Snow Canyon, our Youngsters again got us started off well.  The have been an very impressive group this year, and we want to give a huge thanks to all those who have helped coach and work with them - especially Coach Baker and Coach Bushar.  In the high school girls' race, we saw strong races and efforts from everyone.  The only girls beating us were some of the varsity runners from other teams.  In the boys' race, we saw the same thing.  It has been very impressive to see everyone's improvement throughout the year.  This is, without a doubt, due to the hard work put in by each and everyone of you everyday.  You have been a very fun group to coach and spend time with.  From June and through the long, hot summer; to the craziness of high-altitude camp; the excitement of our first races; and the push of tough workouts and lots of miles all the way to championship season; all of you have earned the right to have your very best races in the next few weeks!  Let's have a great Region meet this week and give it our all.
Here are the announcements for the week:

  • Enter Minutes for Week 18 here
  • Practice schedule will be up some day (!), but for now, just remember this... LEVEL 2 and 3's YOUR MONDAY AM PRACTICE WILL BE AT 6:00am - be there on time in your bright shirts ready for around a 60 min run.
  • RACE: Region on Tuesday at Bloomington Hills North Park.  JV Girls will race at 4:00p, JV Boys will follow at app. 4:40p, then Varsity Girls at about 5:10p, and finally Varsity Boys at 5:40p.  Please note, those start times are approximate.  We will NOT have a bus to the meet - as this is our home course and the coaches will already be at the course helping set up.  Both HS and MS will be excused at 2:15p on Tuesday.  Each athlete is expected to arrange his/her ride to the meet.  Monday at practice we will be finalizing all those rides.
  • YOUNGSTERS - we are hoping to get a race for you on Tuesday as well.  As of right now, SC (who is hosting Region) isn't planning on it.  So we are trying to get our club and the Thunder XC Club to host a race.  Hopefully it will take place right after the Varsity Boys race at around 6:00p.  That way you can all come out and watch the high school teams and then have a great race to end your season.  We will update this post and get an email out to you through Coach Baker with updates!
  • We will have practice on Wednesday after Region (after school) and we will also have practice over the Fall Break.  If you are planning on traveling with the team to State (and are in town) you need to be at those practices.  They will be at 12:30 and the time and place will be announced.
  • Speaking of State... We are planning on filling the bus to go to State and cheer on the team!  We want everyone that can/wants to, to come with us.  The cost for the non-participants is $25 (this covers the hotel room).  This needs to be paid to the finance office at the HS ASAP!  We will take the first 34 who sign up.  Some of you have already covered the cost with your run-a-thon fundraiser.  We will be getting a count Monday afternoon at practice.  For this trip, we will be leaving on Tuesday (18th) around 10:00 and staying the night up in Salt Lake, going to the race on Wednesday and returning later that evening (a whole itinerary will be sent home to those who will traveling).
  • Team Pics - we will be having our team pictures on Monday the 17th before afternoon practice.

Week 18, Cedar Invite Recap and Utah Rankings

What a solid week for the team!  It was a tough one as we hit some solid workouts Monday morning and then Tuesday afternoon.  We were able to bounce back and put together some great team and individual performances at the Cedar Invite on Friday.  We ran the modified version of the course that we ran earlier in the year - a full 3 mile course and about 20-40 seconds slower than previous years.  Our Youngsters got us started with some great racing.  Then the JV girls really put down the hammer on the field.  Sylvia (1st) and Brianna (2nd) led the team to the lowest score of the meet and a team score of 28 to easily outdistance the field.  The JV boys followed with an equally strong showing and the biggest margin of victory at the meet.  Led by Anwar (2nd) and Corbin (4th), we placed 6 in the top 15 to win by 52 points.  The Varsity girls then ran their strongest race of the season.  A very strong team showing saw all five scorers in the top 12 with a spread of just 32 seconds led by Jessica's 18:00.0 3rd place performance, Caroline in 4th, Ellie in 6th, Rylee 10th, and Josie 12th; and Jacey's score of 19 displaced every other team in the meet.  This led to a 34-61,68,73 win over very good DH and Timpview teams and a quickly improving Cedar team.  The Varsity boys closed out the meet with a very exciting battle with DH.  We placed 4 in the top 15 led by Carson (5th) and Dallen (8th) to finish just 7 points behind DH.  A gutsy performance by Julien (who had been sick all week - along with Spencer), and improving performances by Alex and Logan look to keep the pressure on for a great Region and State meet between the two schools.  All the super performances by the team and individuals really show us one of the coolest things about XC - when you put the team above all your other concerns, you will be paid back with awesome performances of your own.  Like we talked about last Monday - if you are living the life of a Renegade, it will give you back more than you could ever put in.  So keep working on developing that Renegade of Run lifestyle... a fully balanced life, where your running helps balance your life and your life helps balance running; sleep, eating habits, study and school, church and family all leading to a harmony that will help you achieve y[our] own greatness!
We finished off the week with a great time volunteering at mile 22 of the St. George Marathon.  Thanks to Mitch for organizing this all.  What an awesome way to give back to the sport and community that has brought so much to us.  An inspiration to watch and support everyone out there giving their very best.  And congrats to all the family and friends of PVXC who participated in the marathon this year!
A few important announcements for the week, so check them all out:

  • Enter Week 17 Minutes here - we'll be entering minutes for the past few weeks and closing them up for entry... so get all caught up.  Thanks to all those who are taking the time to record and track your running through a blog, a week report, journaling, or whatever.  Tracking your running is another important part of being a Renegade.  It shows the commitment and buy-in to the program and your individual continued growth.
  • RACE: This week the JV will race on Wednesday at Snow Canyon.  The meet time has been adjusted a little - A MS race will be at 4:00 and an Elementary race at 4:30 (these races will be $2, if you paid your pre-season $5 you are covered; if not, pay to Coach Baker).  The HS Girls will race at 5:00 and the HS boys will follow (app. 5:30).  We do have a bus for the HS team (You must travel over on the bus and then can travel home with your parents after checking out with Coach Roberts.
  • Workouts might not be caught up today... but I will try - For now, just remember, Level 2 and 3 will have AM practice Monday at 5:30.  The Varsity will have a workout Wednesday over at Snow Canyon and then we will have a full team workout on Friday afternoon.  Most of the rest of the week will follow the usual schedule.
  • Nike SW XC Regionals - Here is some important info for the PVXC Club trip to Phoenix for Nike Southwest: Each of you should have picked up the pink paper with all the info on it.  Parents, get this paper from your son/daughter.  It has ALL the important info.  For now, it looks like the total cost will be $200.  The first $100 and the permission slip is due October 6th!  The remainder will be due later in the month (around State).  Please make checks out to PVXC Club and all payments need to be made through Coach Holt (NOT the HS - this is a club event, not a HS event!).
  • Also, here are the latest Utah XC rankings from Milesplit (released last week).  It is pretty awesome to see that we are one of just 6 schools from the state to be ranked in the top 10 in both boys and girls (and all the others are 4A and 5A schools).  We have a pretty dang awesome team!  You guys are all amazing; so glad that you are part of it, and let us be part of it!

Week 17 and Nebo & Bob Firman Recaps

Another strong week for the Panthers.  We had a lot of fun at Homecoming activities and then headed up north to race over the weekend.  The Varsity runners went to the Bob Firman Invite in Boise.  This wasn't our best race of the year, but some good things did happen.  Despite being a bit off, the girls still took 6th in the Elite division and improved on last year's team time by 30 seconds.  The guys also had a bit of an off race, but finished 8th in the Elite race.  At Nebo, Carli Kimzey was the top finisher for the girls with an 8th place in the JV Jr/Sr race.  Alex Hill was the top finisher for the guys running a 16:54 in the Varsity race.
We're getting to that crucial point in the season where all of you are ready to make a huge jump in improvement.  Physically you are all there - you have put in a huge amount of time running, you have run some strong races, and you are doing everything you can to take care of yourself physically and mentally.  But... are you ready to take the big plunge?  All of your hard work can only pay off if you are brave enough to let it.  Often the thing that holds us back the most is our own fears - what if I don't save enough for the end? What if someone passes me? What if I don't succeed?  These types of questions all limit us and are part of the fixed mindset.  To let ourselves really take advantage of all our hard work, we must be operating in the growth mindset - Let's see what will happen if I try this, What if I go after someone I haven't beaten before? Can I accomplish this thing I have never done.  Be brave and go for it!  There is nothing a coach, parent, friend, or teammate can say; when it all comes down to it, it is all about eliminating fears and being as brave as you can knowing that it is okay to allow yourself the opportunity for growth through trials and successes!  Let's be brave this week!
  • Enter Week 16 Minutes here
  • RACE: Friday Cedar Invite at Cedar HS.  We are not sure yet if the Youngsters will have a race... (look for an update as soon as we receive any info - if so, the race will most likely be at 3:30 - there is a $2 cost).  For the high school team, there will be a JV Girls race at 4:00p, followed by a JV Boys race at 4:30p, then a Varsity Girls race at 5:00p, and a Varsity Boys race at 5:30p (race times are approx.).  HS will be out at 1:45 - bus at 2:00 - and MS out at 2:00 - bus at 2:10.  We will be fielding a full Varsity boys and girls squad; however, we are not sure yet who will be running in those spots... athletes will be informed early in the week.
  • Practice schedule should be updated by Sunday evening - remember early AM practice for Level 2/3 at 5:30a!

Week 16 and Duel in the Desert Recap (UPDATED 9/18)

Another great week for the Panthers!  The Duel was a huge success.  Course and Team Records for Dallen and Rylee, and for the boys' team.  A lot of great things happened for people who set aside fears and just went for it!  It really is important that we trust who we are, our teammates, and our training and the program.  When you do this, there is no reason to fear anything... Just go out and give it your very best.  We are supper proud of all the progress the team is making; and there is much more to come to those who are willing to work for it.  Please remember to be taking care of yourself.  You can't reap all the rewards if you aren't healthy.  So - sleep at night (go to bed early), eliminate stress (by keeping up on school work), eat healthy, roll, stretch, RECOVER.  This week the team will be split as some head to Nebo on Friday and others head to Boise to race on Saturday.  It is a big week for us - the last major invites that the full team will be competing in before Region - so let's make it a great one!
Let's add a huge THANKS to Bubble Bath Car & Dog Wash for their support of the club car wash... it was a huge success.  Thanks to the parents that helped organize and participated, the athletes who did a great job working, and to all our supporters who bought tickets to help send the club to Phoenix in November.
Week 16 Announcements:

  • Post Week 15 Minutes here
  • Grades MUST be turned in to coaches by Monday, 9/19
  • Monday is an early out... Practice is at 3:00p - Be There!
  • Workouts are posted
  • Turn in your car wash money to Coach Holt on MONDAY
  • Race: JV's will head up to Nebo (at Salem Hills HS) on FRIDAY.  You will be out of school at 10:00.  It is a tight schedule to get there on time for the first races, so be prepared with all your gear and don't make the team wait.  MS will be out at 10:00 and picked up just after that.
  • Race: Varsity is going to Bob Firman this week.  They will leave Thursday after lunch.  Those who are going will have a detailed itinerary for themselves and parents.
  • Homecoming this week
    • Monday - Paint the Town: after school (noon'ish) at the high school
    • Wednesday - Homecoming Parade: meet at 6:30 on 200 E. (First Stop road), parade starts at 7:00, wear some PV uni

Week 15, Dixie All-Comers and Murray Invite Recaps (UPDATED 9/13)

This past week was a great one for the Pine View Panthers.  The week started with a great run out on the trails of Santa Clara Desert Reserve on Labor Day.
On Tuesday, the JV teams completed a sweep of the Dixie All-Comers.  The ladies used strong packing led by Alli Peterson, who finished 2nd overall, to secure the win.  The boys followed the girls' lead and were able to overcome the Hurricane Varsity squad to get a narrow win.  Top finishers for the guys were Mikey Abbeglen and Nathan Beitler in 2nd and 3rd.
On Friday, much of the team went up to the Murray Invite and had great races.  Carson Horspool led the Varsity guys to a solid 5th place behind 4 top 50 teams with his 14th place finish.  Julien Canales, Dallen Gillespie, and Mitch Price placed solidly in the low 30's followed by Spencer Bell rounding out our scoring.  The girls ran possibly their strongest race ever - placing a close 3rd to top 25 teams AF and Davis.  Our 22 second spread was started by Jessica Hill, Caroline Clements, Rylee Holt and Josie Bushar who all placed in the top 30.  And they were followed closely by Ellie Bushar to round out the scoring.  In other races, we saw great finishes from Mikey, taking 2nd in the Soph race; Sylvia, who also placed 2nd in the Soph race; Janessa, who finished 11th in the Freshman race; and Alli who placed 12th in the Open race.  We finished up the week with some nice fartlek work on the State course on Saturday morning.
This upcoming week will be a big one.  We will be racing the Duel in the Desert with DH on Tuesday (see below), getting some big workouts in, and finishing the week up with the club car wash on Saturday.  Let's have a great week filled with positive attitudes and hard work.  We 've seen great rewards because of our months of hard work... Let's keep it all moving forward!
Week 15 announcements:
  • Enter your Week 14 Minutes here
  • Check out the workouts for the week - there have been a couple changes from what was posted earlier for the week
  • CAR WASH - for the Pine View XC Club will be held Saturday morning at 10:00a-2:00p.  Please be at the Bubble Bath Car Wash (near Fossil Ridge) at no later than 9:15 to get set up and started.  For info about selling tickets and collecting $ please see instruction sheet handed out at practice
  • RACE: Tuesday at Bloomington Hills North Park.  The PVXC Club and Thunder XC Club will be hosting a Youngsters race at 5:15.  Cost for the middle school race is $1 - please pay to Coach Martha (this is confirmed... note the new start time!).  Pine View and DH will then host the HS Duel in the Desert (2 mile) at 6:00 (girls' race) and 6:20 (boys' race).  Many will have a short workout after the race... please plan on staying to complete your workout.
  • Any parents/XC supporters that were planning on attending the Board meeting today, we have had a very progressive meeting with Craig Hammer and worked out pretty much any issues their are with our XC Clubs (Youngsters).  Everything seems to be on the up-and-up and we can continue our programs with just a few minor adjustments.  We thank you for your support as well as the Region for their support and note that because of the meeting that took place, we no longer feel it necessary to meet with the Board and discuss these issues.

Youngsters Updates (UPDATED 9/6)

Our Youngsters club will NOT have a meet tomorrow (Tues.).  Practice will be held as usual with Coach Martha at 3:00p at the HS.  We are doing everything we can to get our program, as well as the others throughout the District, back running in a way that will most benefit these student-athletes.  Parents, if you have any short stories of how your son/daughter has benefited from this program, please send them to me via email at pineviewxc@gmail.com.  We would like to take some of these stories to those who might help us get stuff moving in the right direction.  Please check back tomorrow (Tuesday) for any possible updates.

We are planning on hosting a meet Wednesday (9/7) at the Dirt Mile - up by Maverick on Exit 13 - at 4:00p.  Please spread the word and come out and join us.  The course is a 1 mile dirt loop that will be run twice.

Attached is the map of parking and the course.

Week 14

We had a very strong week of training this past week... Let's keep it up as we head into this coming week.  A couple things we could all work on: being at practice and our attitudes.  Remember, you get out of running what you put into it.  Being at practice is not only going to help you improve as you put all the pieces of the training puzzle together, it shows a higher level of commitment to yourself and your teammates as you set aside some of the other things in life to become the best you can be at your running.  This level of dedication carries over to our attitudes.  One of the most infectious things is an attitude; whether it be a positive one or a negative one, attitudes affect all those around us and influence how well we do something.  Having a great attitude is sometimes tough, but keeping it positive will lead to better workouts, races, and relations within our team.  Let's all give a little self-check about our commitment and attitude and keep this year going in a positive direction.
Check out this week's announcements below:
  • Week 13 Minutes can be updated here
  • Workouts for the week are updated
  • For those that are in town, we will head out on a trail run Monday morning - meet at the HS at 7:00a (we will then carpool over to the trailheads in Santa Clara)
    • If you're out of town, do your very best to get your long run in on your own
  • RACES:
    • Tuesday is the Dixie All-Comers - Girls will race at 6:00p, Boys at 6:30 at the Bloomington Hills North Park (where we have had workouts a few times).  There IS NO BUS!  You need to make sure you have a ride lined up with someone to get there.  It doesn't look as if our efforts to work out the Youngsters meet will be done by then.  So unless you see a change posted here on the blog, there won't be a Youngsters meet on Tuesday.  We are working diligently with the district to try and cover all the bases and get our Youngster program back on track.  Please keep coming to practice; we will have more races I promise!  Those who are racing Varsity at Murray will need to be to BHNP at 4:00p on Tuesday for their workout.
    • Friday is the Murray Invite - Here is the schedule: VBoys 3p, VGirls 3:20p, JV Boys 3:45or4p, JV Girls 4:30or4:45p, SBoys 5:20p, SGirls 5:35p, FBoys 6:10p, FGirls 6:30p at Murray City Park.  Bus leaves from the HS at 7:45a (9th graders need to meet at the HS, we are NOT picking up at the MS).  Athletes who are attending should have received a full agenda with race, hotel and Saturday's schedule at practice last week.  Unfortunately, not all of the team will be attending this meet.  This is where we focus on practice - athletes who have been to practice have earned the right to travel for this meet.  There is a $25 hotel fee for this meet.  If your fundraised, you may have made enough money to cover this fee; if you didn't, you will need to pay this fee soon.
  • Spirit Packs - hopefully they will be done this week.  There has been some unfortunate snags... but we are working through them!
  • CAR WASH - thanks to Mitch's dad Brandon Price for using all his skills to get us hooked up for the car wash.  Athletes should have received an information paper and some tickets to sell at last week's practice.  The car was will be held 9/17 at the Bubble Bath Car Wash near Fossil Ridge.  Cost is $7 to help cover the cost of using the car wash.  Get selling those tickets!

Week 13 and SUU Invite Recap

Another great week in the books for the Panthers!  After a very LONG and HOT summer, we have started to see the results of all the hard work we have put in.  At SUU everyone ran so well!  We want to say so sorry to the JV girls that got affected by the race/timing screw up.  That is so bumma.  I was really mad (and kind of am still - because so many of you ran amazing races and it would have been great to have a time to back that up), but like in life, mistakes happen and there isn't anything to be done to change it now other than pull out all the positives of why each person individually ran so well.  So dwell on those and keep doing those things!  The race itself was great to watch.  Caroline ran a great race; so great she won it twice!  We have to guestimate her time a bit, but can fairly safely say it would have been between 18:50 and 19:20... a 19:10 would have placed her right around 7th/8th in the Varsity race.  There were also great races run by Carli, Sylvia, Brynnli, Janessa and many others.  The JV girls would have taken a very solid 2nd place if all had been run properly.  The JV boys then stepped up and opened it up.  A pack of Spencer B., Mikey and Nathan took out the early lead and kept it strong throughout the race.  In his first full race as a Panther, Spencer B. claimed the JV title in 16:32 (a time that would have placed him in the top 20 in Varsity).  Mikey finished a strong 2nd, Nathan 6th; then Corbin, Grant, Parker, and Cooper finished 10th-13th to help secure the team title over DH 30-37.  The Varsity Girls eventually got started and we formed a strong pack up front.  For most of the race Rylee, Jessica, and Josie led the pack and the race.  Rylee's strongest run of the season resulted in her finishing 2nd overall (just 3 secs. off the win; and 5 seconds off our PV course record), following Rylee by just 1 second was Jessica and then two seconds back of her was Josie (for a 2,3,4 finish).  Ellie and Jacey finished the last mile strong to get just enough places back to hold on to the win at 32-34 over DH.  The Varsity Boys also had a great result through tight packing.  Alex led the group out strong and they responded to finish 4th - an exciting kick by Carson - 6th, Mitch; 7th, Dallen; 8th, Julien; 9th, Alex; and 11th, Logan.  That 28sec spread nearly overcame DH and we ended up just short at 30-34, but with our best team race in many years (and with times - on both the guys and girls side - that are very worthy of a national ranking)!

Great job to everyone; and thanks parents for all your support.  Let's keep it rolling as we move into a very important week of training.
  • Please enter Week 12 Minutes - and catch up anything you haven't, because I won't look back past the last week or two to update after Monday.
  • Workouts are posted (over on the right); remember...
    • Monday morning early - 5:30a in your camp shirts
    • Monday afternoon meeting in Coach Holt's room
    • Wednesday afternoon we will carpool over to BHNP for the workout
    • Friday afternoon we will carpool into Washington for the workout on the Dirt Mile
    • Tuesday and Thursday are weights in the morning
  • Car Wash - is kind of up in the air right now.  The reason; because of district $ and travel guidelines, we cannot hold the car wash at Sandstone (it is a long and often frustrating discussion, ask me later if you want more details).  So anyway, we are trying to secure another location to hold the car wash.  We would still like to hold it this weekend so we can start collecting $ for our club trip to Nike SW in Phoenix (or Cali for Foot Locker if that doesn't work out).  Sorry that this has happened, but sometimes we have to roll with the punches.

Week 12 and Desert Relays

What a great week!  Thanks to all those who came out to the early run on Monday morning AND WORE YOUR CAMP SHIRTS (same thing this week... run starts at 5:30a, wear the camp shirt).  We had a good workout at the park on Wednesday and then followed that up with a very strong race at the Desert Relays.  Both races looked to be very close coming into them, but we were probably on the down side of those scores.  The girls got us started off very well, especially our 3-6th teams, and we were able to flip the score and secure our 3rd straight title by 2 points over a DH team that ran even stronger than last week.  Jacey Finch won our lone Plate with a huge run on Leg 3, besting her Leg record (set last year) by 5 seconds!  The boys followed suit by pulling what would probably be called an upset and winning by just 1 point!  It was a great race, and all the boys pulled together for their first win over the 3x defending state champs in 4 years.  Probably the greatest thing about these wins is that as a team we won only 1 of the 6 individual titles, but in the true definition of TEAM, everyone did their best and helped Pine View to achieve our best!  Great job Panthers; we are so proud of you guys.  We then capped the night off with our annual Run-A-Thon.  There was a ton of team bonding, great games, running, food, wildness and whatever else you could imagine.  Awesome times... and glad it's done.
A lot of stuff coming up this week too.  Check out every bit of info:
  • Enter Week 11 Minutes
  • To all our new teammates; you must get your registration done at registermyathlete.com, get your fees paid to the HS, and turn in your physical
  • Workouts are posted - important info:
    • Monday - am at 5:30; pm meet in Coach Holt's room at 3:00, ready to run (even with the short day - stick around, or come back, whatever... just be there, see below)
    • Wednesday - meet at PVHS and carpool over to the park for the workout
  • Race: SUU INVITE, Saturday at Bicentennial Park in Cedar (times and bus info TBA)
  • And as usual, get on the remind app for text updates (scroll down a bit for info) and follow us on Insta and Twitter at @pvxctrack
Just a quick note, but a very important one, on practice - Our team is growing a lot.  We will have over 70 athletes registered by this week.  This means it is even more important than ever to make sure you are at practice for every required workout (and only use the optional ones when very needed).  Many of our trips will only take between 48 (like Murray and Nebo) and low 50's athletes.  The very first way that we will determine the traveling squad is attendance at practice.  YOU MUST BE AT EVERY REQUIRED PRACTICE TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE WEEK TO BE ELIGIBLE TO RACE! (AND FOR OVERNIGHT TRIPS IT WILL BE 2+ WEEKS.)

Week 11 and Cedar All-Comers Recap

A lot of great stuff this past week:  School started, so that was awesome!
At the Cedar All-Comers on Tuesday, the team ran well and got the racing season off to a good start.  Many of our Youngsters traveled up and saw great races as a result of hard summer training.  Scottie Bushar won the race overall and we placed many boys and girls in the top 10.  The HS girls race was won by our very own Josie Bushar!  Our Varsity pack slipped off a bit and we got beat narrowly by a very good DH team 28-35.  But we'll continue pushing forward and see great things happen!  Especially considering our #2 runner was Freshman Jessica Hill; great job Jess.  We also saw strong races from Brynnli Borrowman and Carli Kimzey.  The boys were up on DH for about 2 miles, but slipped off a bit in the final mile and ended up getting beat by about 10 points (28-38 ?).  Mitch Price led the team with a great run in the front pack (finishing 3rd) along with Dallen Gillespie.
On Friday and Saturday, the top 8 guys and 9 girls headed up to Pine Valley for our Renegade Camp.  We had some great discussions, played games, and ran up the mountain.  It was awesome!  Thanks to Coach Robs for the use of the cabin and putting up with everyone.

Here's the important info for the upcoming week:
  • Get your Week 10 Minutes in.
  • Usual reminder about registration: Almost everyone got it done!  But those that haven't or are new to the team, you need to register at registermyathlete.com as well as get your physical done and turned in to the office and pay your participation fee to the Finance Office and give Kara (secretary in the main office) your receipt.
  • Workouts are posted to the side - check them out, especially your workout times for Wednesday afternoon (we will meet together Wed. afternoon and then carpool over to BHNP for the workout).  Please remember that Level 2 and 3's are meeting at 5:30a on Monday for their long run.  It will be tough to get up, but you'll be happy you did when it is near 110 Monday afternoon.
  • Monday afternoon all team members will meet for an info meeting at 3:00p in Coach Holt's room (304) - hopefully we can move the meeting to the lecture hall.
  • Race on Friday - Desert Relays - PV vs. DH at Bloomington Hills North Park at 6:00p.  There will be no bus; athletes need to arrive at 5:15 to get race assignments and warm-up.  Youngsters are invited to run this race (they will race at the same time as the HS races).
  • Run-a-thon will be Friday after the race (app. 8:00p) at PVHS.  Specific running times will be sent home on Monday.
  • We will be getting Car Wash tickets this week, so look for those soon.
  • Remember to check us out on Insta and Twitter @pvxctrack
  • AND Finally... any 6th-8th graders, the YOUNGSTERS are officially starting on Monday at 3:00p at the HS (meet near the PV marquee in front of the building).  Check out the post on it from last week.

Youngsters Practice

We have put together our practice schedule for our Middle School Club - The Youngsters.
Practices will be held Monday, Tuesday and Friday at PVHS at 3:00 starting August 15th.  These practices are led by Coaches Martha Baker and Scott Bushar.  There is no cost for the club, but some of the races have a cost associated with them, and the uniform has a cost (but it is not necessary to purchase) - check out the Spirit Pack info a few posts down for info about the Youngsters uniform options.
It is important that each athlete who wants to participate with the club have the Youngsters Consent Form filled out and signed.
And it is VERY IMPORTANT to know that each runner will not be directly supervised at all times.  We try and keep the kids here at the school as much as possible, but our space is limited.  So on occasion, runs may head into neighborhoods near the school.  Coaches will be near the runners and the safest routes possible will be chosen, but not every runner can be watched at all times.  This is part of the inherent risk of running and EVERY PARENT NEEDS TO EXPLAIN/DISCUSS SAFETY WITH EACH YOUNGSTER!

     Girls
     Boys

Wow!  What a summer - we had a lot of great stuff going on.  Let's keep it up as we transition to the school year.  Think about how many of you talked about a person who recruited you and made a difference in you coming out to XC... I challenge everyone of you to now be that person for someone else as we move into the school year.  It is a perfect time to get someone started.  Challenge them to come out for 2 weeks and see how much they really like it.  And calm all their fears by telling them about how it was when you got started and what you like about it so much.  This is going to be a truly special year and we want to share it with everyone that we can.

Final Camp Info - Week 9

Here's the plan for Monday:

Practice is at 7:00a at Bloomington Hills North Park - everyone please be there, even if you aren't heading to camp.

Leaving to Camp - we will meet at the high school at 11:30a to pack up and leave.  DON'T BE LATE!  If you haven't paid your payment yet - or if you have some sponsor money to turn in - be at the hs a bit earlier than this and see if you can get it taken care of.  We Want to Be Leaving at NOON.

Packing - don't overpack.  Take what you need, but don't go over the top.  Obviously, you need running clothes for each of the different runs; you need hygiene stuff, sleeping stuff, other clothes (including a sweater/jacket); a reusable water/drinking bottle that is clearly labeled with your name; a camp chair; and a good attitude!  A few of you have been asked to bring your large tents, so don't forget those.  There is a packing list from a few weeks back; if you need it, scroll down a few posts until you find it.

Driving - the final info for drivers was sent out in an email.  So check it out those parents that are driving.

Coming Home - we plan to be on the road around 10:00a on Thursday, so we should be back around 11:30 or noon if we get a little later start.

Practice for the rest of the week - we won't hold team practice on Fri or Saturday.  You can either run on your own or organize your own group runs.

Those not going to camp - we will miss you!  You are expected to get your runs in throughout the week.  If you want to meet up do it.  If you want to run on your own, do it.  Just keep getting your runs in.

Get your minutes reported PLEASE - Week 8 here - go back to previous few weeks and get them caught up too.

Spirit Pack Info

Here's the post we've all been waiting for... and I've been dreading.  Spirit Pack info!

So the SPIRIT PACK doc has two tabs... the first is the for the High School athletes, the second is for the Youngsters.  So make sure you are checking out/printing out/ordering off the appropriate doc.

For High Schoolers (and Parents) - print off your order form, fill it out completely with sizes and number of items (if ordering multiple of the same thing) and totals of cost, etc.  Make it as clear to me as possible what you are ordering and how much it all costs.  If you are putting SPONSOR money toward your Spirit Pack, you must have that money collected and turned in to the Finance Office at the HS by next Friday.  On Monday the 8th, at practice, I will then collect your Order Form and Sponsor Receipts; we will do the quick math to figure out your final payment and you will then be responsible for bringing the Spirit Pack Receipt to Coach to complete your order.

The only things you MUST GET from the Spirit Pack are the Mens or Womens Race Singlet and Mens Shorts or Womens Spandex or Shorts (look at the descriptions for the appropriate things).  Those of you who have these from previous years don't need to order them again unless you need/want to.  All the other items are optional.

For the Youngsters (and Parents) - you aren't required to get anything from the order form.  However, if you would like one of the new uniform tops go ahead and order one.  To make sure we get them before too long into the season, they have already been ordered.  So sizes will be on a first order/pay first serve basis.  You can also pay for all your meets through this and save a little money (this is something we have to do to cover the cost of timing the bigger meets, and saying it is a camp - to be legal - for the smaller meets).  The Youngsters Order Form and Payment need to be turned in to Coach Holt.  This program is ran through the PVXC Club, therefore the payment is NOT to the HS.

A final, but important reminder, whatever you order you will pay for!

Week 8

We're gearing up for the end of summer - whether you are ready or not!  We had a good week last week and even survived so many of you gone to camps and such.  Congrats to those who raced this past weekend at either Hurricane or Enterprise.  A big group of boys ran over at Hurricane and did very well - Carson (1st), Julien (2nd), Mitch (3rd), Dallen (4th), Logan (6th), and Xander (7th?) all placed in the top 10.  And Caroline (1st), Rylee (3rd), and Addi (4th) all did very well on the ladies' side.  Up in Enterprise Ellie and Josie tied for the win (although in the pic Ellie is holding the trophy, so...!)
We are closing in on camp next week - many parents have volunteered to help drive and THANK YOU VERY MUCH!  We should have all the spots covered, and will be shooting out an email to those who are driving very soon.  But here's how it looks for now (let me know ASAP if this doesn't seem to work or if their were changes in your schedule/plans)
