Week 4

Another very strong week for us.  We are so excited to see what this team does this year and how each of you are able to contribute.
Here are a few things for the upcoming week.

  • Let's get putting our minutes in... Week 3, Week 2, and Week 1 (Weeks 1 and 2 will be closing Monday, so get them entered).
  • High Altitude Camp will be $90.  You should get some info this week about when and where to pay.
  • Keep blogging and recording your workouts... it is very helpful to the coaches, and even more important, it will help you become a better runner by recording your thoughts and feelings as you go through this journey.
  • We won't have coach led practice on the week of the 4th of July - but those that are in town can get together and do your own practice.  The workouts will still be posted for you.
  • This week:
Monday: practice is at 6:30a - long run.
Tuesday: Kids Club after practice (thanks to those who are bringing treats). AND weights at 3:00p at PVHS with a short run for some of you after.
Wednesday: regular practice schedule

Thursday: regular practice schedule.  Weights at 3:00p at PVHS with a short run after.
Friday: Meet at Coral Canyon (Heritage Park).
Saturday: On own or organize your own run.

Athletes of the Week (Week 2)
Dylan Miraglia, Sr. - Dylan has made a huge effort this summer toward making his goal of work his way on to the Varsity team.  He has been a great example for the the rest of the guys around him as they see him push to his best everyday and find something positive out of all of his efforts.
Rylee Holt, Jr. - Rylee followed up her record setting xc season last year with a very solid track season where she took 6th in the 3200m at State.  She has developed into a team leader this summer who expects a lot from herself and her teammates.

Think on this a bit...

Week 3

Another strong week for our team.  Although we missed a large group of you off to various activities at the end of the week, we still had a strong group out to practice throughout the week (and thanks to those who ran while they were away... and blogged it!)
One of our requirements for coming to camp (and racing when we eventually get to the race season) will be entering your minutes for each week.  Please go back and enter your Week 1 Minutes if you haven't yet.  And please enter you Week 2 Minutes here.
Speaking of camp, please don't pay your $90 yet.  We will let you know when and where to pay that money when you get invited to come to camp.  You will need to be running Level 1 workouts for a couple weeks before you are invited to camp. So get recording your runs (fastrunningblog or week reports - which can be found on the right of the pvxc blog).

We really can't quit telling you all how great you are doing... this has been the best beginning of a season we've ever had!  But now we get to some important weeks.  The novelty of the start of a new season has started to wear off, morning alarms come pretty early, the heat is really on, and we still have a lot of things going on that take us away from practice.  NOW IS THE TIME THAT YOUR SEASON IS REALLY MADE.  To do great things in races, you have to put in a great amount of work right now.  Amazing goals are reached with amazing amounts of work in the summer.

As we push our bodies further, make sure you are taking care of yourself with proper rest, hydration, nutrition, and footwear.

Schedule for the week:
The full workout schedule can be found here (or over on the right hand column).

MONDAY - long run, so we will be meeting at the elementary at 6:30a!

TUESDAY - regular 7:00a practice with Kids' Club following.  Weights and team meeting at 3:00p.

WEDNESDAY - regular 7:00a practice.

THURSDAY - regular 7:00a practice.  Weights at 3:00p.

FRIDAY - 7:00a practice, meet at Confluence Park (by the Dixie Center).

SATURDAY - run on own or with your own organized group.

Another reminder to get our texts using code @a24b37 at remind.com or using the remind app.  And also follow the team on Twitter and Insta @pvxctrack.

And before we go, let's catch up our Athletes of the Week from the first week of the season:
Kylee Brown, So - Kylee had a strong Freshman season for us last year.  She was chosen for her great work ethic, positive attitude, willingness to get to know new athletes, and blogging each of her runs.
Caleb Adams, So - Caleb, like Kylee, was fairly new to running in his Freshman year with us.  He always works very hard and is an excellent example of doing everything he can to improve.

Week 2

What a great first week of XC! Our numbers were great; we had a lot of new faces; Kids' Club went very well; and we got a lot of good running in.  Remember your challenge for this week was to get someone to come out and join us.

A few reminders:
- Registermyathlete is closed starting Monday.  So get it done before then if you can.
- Get your physical done.
- Camp will be held July 31-Aug 1.  The cost will be $90.  With our large group, we will be inviting all members of our team who are regularly attending practice and are showing that they can run full Level 1 workouts by mid July.  So keep coming out and keep working on improving and pushing yourself everyday.
- Please record your Week 1 Minutes here.  Each week we keep track of our individual and team minutes.  We could easily set a Week 1 record if everyone put their minutes in! Do it; it will only take 30 secs.

This week's schedule:
Monday - Thursday - regular practice at Washington Elementary at 7:00a.
Tues - Kids' Club after practice (8:30-9:45a) try and stay and help please.
Fri - 7:00a practice held at Middleton Park
weights - we will be begin lifting on Tues & Thurs at PVHS at 3:00p (for 30-45 mins).  Everyone is invited and encouraged to come on days you are in town.

As we move into our 2nd week of practice, remember all the things we have been talking about... Ways to stay healthy and injury free (stretching, rolling, good shoes, drinking plenty of water, etc.); The benefits of recording your runs (like on the fastrunningblog or our Week Reports); and please remember, YOU ARE GOING TO GET OUT OF THIS ACTIVITY WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT! Those who work hard with positive attitudes and want to contribute to the team, are going to have a great experience and develop a great love for running and the team.  Think about WHY you are here each day, WHY are you doing this difficult sport, WHY are you waking up early and working out in the heat... and a little evaluation of yourself will help you see if your goals are aligning with what our team wants to accomplish.  If it does, keep it rolling! If it doesn't, see if there's some way or someone who can help you adjust a little to help you get the greatest reward you can from being part of the greatest team, doing the greatest activity, at the greatest school around!

Week 1 - XC is Starting!

It's already and finally here!  XC season is starting up next week.  Before we go over our Week 1 info, here are some other important announcements:

  • Physicals - Must be done ASAP!  Get your paperwork at PVHS or at the USHAA website, then get the physical turned in to the office at PVHS. Remember, everyone needs a new physical every year.
  • Register My Athlete is where we now do our paperwork.  Go online and get it done.  Those who are returning need to update your info and register for the 2017-18 season.
  • Payments - The school can't accept any payment for participation fee ($85) or this summer's high altitude camp ($85?) yet (not until July?).  But you may want to start saving up your money for these things as well as your uniform and spirit pack.
  • 2017 XC Schedule is posted - please make sure to check back and make sure you know of any changes... they happen often in XC.
  • We will be posting things on the remind app - the PVXC code is @a24b37 - please get signed up to stay up to date on all things PVXC.
  • And of course, follow us on Twitter and Instagram @pvxctrack
  • We (the coaches and captains) would really like to have all our athletes posting workouts online - this gives us all (coaches and athletes) feedback on how workouts, our health, races, team chemistry, and more, are all going.  You can do this at a variety of sites, but a couple we use are the fastrunningblog or our team Week Reports.  This is also a good way to track your total minutes, since we do this every week and post the info here at the end of the week.
Remember, be to practice everyday that you are in town (and when you are out of town, try and get your run in as best as possible)... it will make all the difference when we start racing.

Week 1:
Monday - Summer practice starts.  7:00a at Washington Elementary.  You can follow the practice schedule here.  We'll get a little run in; probably have a few XC traditions; and get to know each other a bit!

Tuesday - After practice, we have Summer Running Club.  This goes from 8:30-9:45a.  We need everyone's help.  Please plan on staying around on Tuesdays.

Wednesday-Thursday - Regular practice at 7:00a.

Friday - Practice at 7:00a at Sullivan Park.

Saturday - Run on your own or organize a group run.
