State

The Utah State XC Meet was one filled with a lot of emotional up and downs for the Panthers.  We couldn't be prouder of both squads - both placing second and for the first time in PV history having both the boys and girls coming home with trophies.  We are also very proud of Preston Warby for earning Academic All-State.

The girls' race had some controversy about runners going out-of-bounds and after initially thinking we had won, we placed 2nd to Stansbury by 1 point.  Although this was a very difficult situation and there were a lot of unanswered questions, the girls handled it all as best they could and will move on stronger than ever before because of it.  Each of the girls ran well and helped us set a new PV team time record as well as the 8th fastest 3A time ever.  We are also proud to have 6 All-State athletes on our team - 2nd Team: Meskerem Stucki 8th, Rylee Holt 13th; 3rd Team: Josie Bushar 15th, Ellie Bushar 16th, Jacey Finch 18th, and Caroline Clements 20th.

The boys also ran their strongest race of the year and in the process of taking 2nd place ran our 2nd fastest PV time ever.  We were led by individual State Champion Nick Hill who ran the 2nd fastest individual PV time ever.  Earning All-State honors for the boys - 1st Team: Nick Hill 1st (State MVP); 2nd Team: Dallen Gillespie 8th, Mitchell Price 12th, and Carson Horspool 14th.

Region 9 Championships

It was a much warmer day than usual (as has been pretty much this whole season!) up at Bicentennial Park in Cedar City, site of the 2015 Region 9 Championships; however, that didn't stop the Panthers from having an outstanding day.

In the Middle School race, our Youngsters Boys placed 3rd overall - led by Scottie Bushar in 2nd and Bryan Richardson in 10th - and our Girls claimed first by placing 6 in the top 10; led by Sarah Snow in 1st, Alli Baker 4th, Jessica Hill 7th, Pyper Holt 8th, Gracie Clements 9th and Kya Cottam 10th.
The JV races saw continued Pine View domination.  The girls started strong and carried it throughout the race.  Brianna Loya had her best race of the season and won in decided fashion.  She was followed by Sylvia Brown in 2nd, Addi Baker 3rd, Seanne Smith 5th and Megan Finch 8th to win 19 to 41 (Cedar).  The JV girls saw many other great races too: Brynnli Borrowman ran a break-out race; Kaylee Benson ran very well and Destiny Rios continued to show great improvement.  The boys continued the winning ways using our depth to take the team title 27 to 32 over DH.  Placing in the top 10 were Paul Gaona 3rd, Jason Hall 4th, Andrew Nielsen 5th, Jake Taylor 7th and Logan Hall 8th.  Mikey Abegglen continues to race very strong; Xander Reese had his best race of the season; and Aiden Taylor had a particularly strong race as well.

The Varsity races started strong with the girls winning their 2nd straight Region Title!  Although DH (53) and Cedar (57) ran strong races and have both shown great improvement over the season, our depth and pack running was too much to overcome.  Meskerem Stucki took over the race at about 1.5 miles and never looked back.  She ended up winning the Region Title by 6 seconds over teammate Rylee Holt who ran strong throughout to claim the runner-up position.  She was followed by Caroline Clements in 4th, Josie Bushar in 8th, Ellie Bushar 10th, Jacey Finch 11th and Alli Peterson 14th.
The boys then ran their best race against nationally ranked DH in years and took a solid 2nd at 22 to 38 (with Cedar 3rd at 82).  Nick Hill finished strong and narrowly got out-kicked to finish in 3rd.  The races of the day belonged to our next 3 finishers with Dallen Gillespie finishing 4th, Mitch Price taking 7th and Carson Horspool taking 10th and medaling in his first true Varsity race.  Our scoring rounded out with Skylar Abel finishing 14th; he was followed by Preston Warby in 16th and Alex Hill in 21st.

This was an outstanding meet!  We loved the support from parents and family, administration, PVXC'ers 4 Ever, and other members of the Panther community.
Thanks to our Seniors for all the great memories, your hard work and dedication, and your example to help keep building this program for many more years and many more great Region races!  We love you and will miss you.

End of (Regular) Season Review

On the eve of the Region 9 Championships - held Tuesday, Oct. 13th, at Bicentennial Park in Cedar - let's get an update on how the 2nd half of the season went.
Races -
Canyon View Invite - The CV Invite, held at CVHS, gave our JV runners a chance to shine.  The B Team girls ran an awesome race and won the meet!  The B team boys (which consist of runners 11-17) also had a great meet and placed 3rd to CV's varsity and DH's full JV.
Nebo Invite - Our overnight trip this year, the team ran great at Nebo.  The Varsity boys placed a very close 4th, just 9 total seconds and 10 points off of 2nd.  Nick Hill led the team with a very solid 5th place finish.  The girls B team ran very solid and was led by Addi Baker who placed 20th in the Varsity race.  The JV boys looked very impressive on their way to a 65 point victory.
Bob Firman Invite - This same weekend as Nebo, the Varsity girls traveled to the prestigious Bob Firman Invite in Boise.  The girls ran great for their first race on a national level stage placing 5th (winning the tie-breaker over Timpanogos) behind #1 ranked Great Oak and top 10 teams American Fork and Davis.  Meskerem Stucki had a break-out race, placing in the top 20.  And Rylee Holt recorded the 2nd fastest Freshman time of the day in all races.
Cedar Invite - On the boys side, the main goal of the Cedar Invite was to decide varsity placement for Region.  As such, we pulled #1 Nick Hill out of the race and let the other guys battle it out.  The team ran very well and ended up winning the meet by placing 6 in the top 20!  Dallen Gillespie led the pack with a 6th place finish.  The A Team for the girls sat out the meet allowing the B Team to run another strong Varsity race, placing 6th.  Racing our 12-18 boys, the JV came home with another invite win, led by Logan Hall who claimed the individual title.  The greatest improvements on the day came from many of our JV runners, who saw improvements of 3+ minutes on the course from earlier in the season.
Snow Canyon Invite - The SC Invite gives the JV one more race to get a solid time on a fast course.  They ran very well on the hot day and put up some great times.

Athletes of the Week - let's catch up a bunch of weeks again...
Brynnli Borrowman - A first year runner for us, Brynnli has shown great improvement this season.  Only a Sophomore, she has a bright future ahead of her in running.
Carli Kimzey - Carli, a Junior, has had the opportunity to run numerous Varsity races this season and has done extremely well.  She brings a consistency and persistence to the young upper JV runners that has really helped them improve this season.
Mikey Abegglen - A Freshman, Mikey has run in our Youngsters program for a number of years.  This season, Mikey has shown great potential and improvement.  He will be a force to recon with for the next three seasons.
Tyler Evans - Another Freshman, Tyler has worked extremely hard this season.  Because of this, his improvement has been some of the best on the team.
Sasha Salinas - Another Freshman, Sasha has pushed through the difficult hot hours and hours it takes to run XC in Southern Utah.  Her example of hard work and dedication is admired by everyone on the team.
Jake McArthur - Jake came to our team at the beginning of the school year from out-of-state.  A Sophomore, Jake always influences everyone for the better with his positive attitude and great work ethic.
Alex Hill - Alex, a Sophomore, has been one of our top runners since he was a Freshman.  This year, he has worked extremely hard to secure a Varsity spot for Region - solidified by a great run at the Cedar Invite.
Destiny Rios - A Freshman, Destiny is new to running with our team this year.  The team has loved having her great attitude and humor to keep us all positive and working hard.

Rankings -
The boys have moved into the "receiving mention" column for the SW rankings from Milesplit.  They are doing a great job and to start getting this pub in arguably the deepest Region in the US shows they are one of the top teams we have ever had at PV.
The girls are continuing to "receive mention" as well.  There are a lot of great teams in the SW, and our girls have proven that they are one of the top programs in the Region.

Murray Invite - Milesplit

A little pub for both the boys and girls team in Milesplit's write-up for the past week.  The girls are continuing to get votes in the SW rankings - top 10 here we come!

Mid-September Update

Many great things are happening for our program and we want to cover them all!
Dixie All-Comers:  The strength of our program was really shown at the Dixie All-Comers on the first Tuesday in September, held at Bloomington Hills North Park.  With most teams from the region running their Varsity squads, our JV harriers held their own.  As usual, the Youngsters got us off to a great start placing many of the top 15 spots.  The girls race saw Sylvia and Addi in a battle at the front of the pack.  Sylvia's great race came down to a kick finish and she placed 2nd in a field of Varsity runners and helped the girls place 2nd at the meet - next to Cedar's Varsity.  The boys also placed well with our #11+ runners as we took 3rd to Cedar and Dixie's Varsities with Carson Horspool taking over the race 1 mile in and claiming the victory.
Pine View Time Trial #3:  In our 3rd, and final, Time Trial held the next Tues (also at BHNP), we saw continued growth from the team.  The boys were led to another team record, placing 10 under 11:00 and 5 under 10:35 on the difficult 2 mile course - with Nick Hill leading the team with a course record 10:15.  The girls also saw a strong run placing 7 under 12:45 led by Meskerem Stucki in 12:10.
Murray Invitational:  Our next big meet was the Murray Invite - held at Murray City Park on Fri, 9/11.  This was a new course from the old Murray Invite where we have had a lot of success in the past.  Even with the new course, the results were similar.  Our team had a great showing at Murray and many runners shined.  The Varsity boys were paced by Nick Hill (12th place finisher) to a 4th place finish.  The Varsity girls did the boys one better and finished 3rd to national top ten teams American Fork and Davis.  A strong front pack of Caroline Clements (17th), Rylee Holt (18th), Josie Bushar (25th), and Jacey Finch (26th) contributed greatly to the team success.  In the Fresh/Soph races (both boys and girls), Panthers finished 1,2,5 to help the teams take 2nd.  On the boys side the results went Alex Hill, Carson Horspool, and Logan Hall.  For the girls: Sylvia Brown, Addi Baker, and Brianna Loya.  In the Open races, Megan Finch placed well and Paul Gaona and Skylar Abel were medalists.
Duel in the Desert:  Just this Tuesday, we held our duel with DH.  Again, without our top 10 runners - on boys and girls - our JV athletes ran very well.  Megan Finch and Seanne Smith led the girls with a 1-2 finish that led to a team victory.  The boys also ran solid against DH's full JV and placed two of the top 6 and 7 of the next 11.
Athletes of the Week:  From these weeks, we have some catching up to do on Athletes of the Week.
Maycee Hayes - This is Maycee's 2nd AotW honor this year.  She is a great example of what an XC athlete is.  She works extremelly hard, has seen her times improve greatly, and has a contagiously great attitude.
Corbin Paxman - Corbin also has the type of attitude that influences everyone around him for the positive.  With this great personality, Corbin has combined the dedication and commitment that have drop his time significantly.
Carson Horspool - Carson has set himself up as one of the runners to be watch next year by the great season he has had this year.  His commitment to the program and his own running are paying huge dividends as he sees his times and places improve greatly.
Kaylee Benson - Kaylee is a new athlete to our program this year and has brought a great personality and work ethic with her.  Kaylee has seen huge improvements from the summer to the mid-season.  And is a great example of working with those around her to improve the whole team.

Time Trial #2

Our 2nd Time Trial of the year was held Wednesday at Bloomington Hills North Park.  Conditions were good for an August afternoon and the team took full advantage of them.  Most athletes saw improvements from 20 seconds to a minute from the first time trial 3 weeks ago - very impressive on the difficult 2 mile course.  Check out the results using the PVXC results link to the right.

Thursday, the team hit the trail for the first time since summer.  We headed out to prospector and had a great run.  Take a look at the pics.

SUU Invite and more...

What a great meet Pine View had at SUU - winning 3 of the 4 races and taking 2 individual titles!  The meet started with the JV girls dominating.  A top 3 sweep included Freshmen Sylvia Brown in 3rd, Addi Baker in 2nd and Rylee Holt winning the title.  Megan Finch and Carli Kimzey rounded out the scoring with 6th and 7th place finishes.  The girls went on to win 19 to 67 for Cedar and 71 for DH.  The boys followed suite and also claimed top three and placed all five scorers in the top ten led by individual champ Jake Taylor, Skylar Abel in 2nd and Andrew Nielsen in 3rd.  When Logan Hall and Carson Horspool finished up in 8th and 9th, we ended up defeating DH 23 to 32.  The Varsity girls continued to show pack domination winning 26 to 53 (DH) and 83 (Cedar) by 5 in the top 10 led by Caroline Clements (4th), Meskerem Stucki (5th), Josie Bushar (8th), Jacey Finch (9th) and Ellie Bushar (10th) with a 16 second spread!  The boys also had a strong pack for much of the race and placed a solid 2nd to DH at 17 to 51.  Nick Hill led the team with a 7th place finish and Dallen Gillespie and Mitch Price ran strong to finish 9th and 10th.  The girls crushed the course record set by a '09 Mt. View that took third at NXR and the boys were less than a second off our team record set back in '09 by a team that is considered the 2nd strongest PV boys team ever.  Great Racing Everyone!

The Athletes of the Week from this past week were Seanne Smith and Xander Reese.
Seanne Smith is a Freshman who just joined the team at the start of the school year.  She has already shown great improvement and promise.  She is a very hard worker and looks to continue to be a contributor scorer on the JV team and work her way toward Varsity contention in the future.
Xander Reese is a Junior in his first year of running.  Xander is a strong soccer player and his athletic skills have translated well to the XC course.  At SUU, Xander ran with top JV pack for the first while and looks to continue to work his way up to them throughout more of the race in the future.  This gutsy race led him to a great time and a solid finish on the team.
This week we will be having our Time Trial #2 at Bloomington Hills North Park on Wednesday.  We will meet there for practice and begin the races at app. 3:45 and 4:00.
We also have our FootLocker Car Wash Fundraiser this Saturday.  Please plan on attending and help was all the hundreds of cars.  It will be held at Sandstone Elem. from 10:00a-2:00p.  SELL THOSE TICKETS!

August Catch Up

Let's get some stuff caught up for the month.
The good:

  •      School Started!  (okay maybe not super good, but it means we are back on our "normal practice schedule".  If you have questions with that, check out the XC Disclosure and/or the PV Distance Workouts and see when you should be here - normal time is 3:00p at the HS)
  • We've already started running some races:
    • PV Time Trial #1 - went very well.  We have really focused this summer on packing and team running.  Our #1 goal at the time trial (and throughout the early season) has been working together as a pack to find our team strength and we did that exceptionally well.
    • Cedar All-Comers - A great official start to the season.  The girls started the season off in power-house fashion.  Not only did we nearly score a perfect victory (with 16 points), we place 7 of the top 10 and had all our "Varsity" finish before any team other than DH.  Breaking down to "JV" scores, The girls dominated that race as well.  The boys also ran very strong with the "JV" boys edging out DH and the "Varsity" 7 taking a strong 2nd to one of the top 10 teams in the country.  This race shows that our program and our team oriented focus of finding "Joy in the Journey" is producing great results for everyone on the team who is willing to put in the effort.
    • Desert Relays - after having to cancel the first attempt at the Relays after a lightning storm hit during the middle of the girls race, the second version went even better than how the first was playing out.  The girls dominated from top to bottom.  We had two Plate winners: Meskerem Stucki in the 1st Leg and Jacey Finch in the 3rd Leg.  The Black team had the overall fastest girls team time and the girls won by a decent margin over a very good DH team.  The boys showed their team strength to hang close to DH, and even though we didn't take home any hardware, we are continuing to reach toward our goal of being the best PV we can be.  We had very strong runs from Paul Gaona, Skylar Abel, and Andrew Nielsen.
  • High Altitude Camp: This year's summer camp at Pine Lake was our best one yet!  The captains did a great job of organizing and leading camp.  The Camp theme was Renegades of Run - focusing on what it means to be a truly elite Panther Distance Runner.  Many ideas were discussed about how a Renegade breaks free of the "normal" high school student (and even runner) to set him/herself up to a higher standard of living in every way.  The year theme of "Joy in the Journey" as also a great topic as the Captains look to help each and everyone of us enjoy each thing we do along this journey of life; including finding joy in all aspects of our running.  The weather was great; the food was great; the games were great; and the team was great.  A great example of why we all love being Panthers!
  • Renegades of Run Elite Camp:  The top 10 boys and girls were selected for a two day camp on Cedar Mountain at the end of the summer.  The first day we traveled up to Navajo Lake and had a great run and swim in the lake followed by hours of exploring through Mammoth Caves.  That night we stayed at Preston's family's cabin in Brian Head and just had a great time playing games and hanging out.  The following morning, we had one of the most amazing runs ever up on Brian Head peak at over 11000 feet.  It was an unbelievable team bonding experience.
  • A few more Athletes of the Week:
    • From this past week we had Meskerem Stucki for her leadership and continued improvement at being at all practices and working with the team concept we are really working to get everyone to believe in - it's working for her (she won Cedar and the Relays) and she is helping everyone around her.  Mitchell Price was our boys Athlete of the Week.  Mitch continues to impress and improve his times and the racing/practicing of everyone around him.  At Cedar, Mitch claimed the all important 3rd spot (the most important scorer on the team!)
    • From Camp Week and the Time Trial #1 Week (I think that would be Weeks 9 and 10) our Athletes of the Week were Addi Baker, Mitch Price, Tanner Hadlock and Megan Finch.  Addi is another outstanding Freshman.  She has a huge amount of determination and always looks to help her teammates improve.  We expect great things from her.  Mitch (again...) was picked this week for his awesome work with as a Captain with High Altitude Camp.  Camp was absolutely amazing and the Captains did a great job with it.  Tanner continues to impress every day with his hard work and commitment.  Tanner loves running and the team loves the effort he puts in.  And Megan, was chosen for her great summer and very solid run at the Time Trial.  Megan has been one of our top runners in the past and has had to battle injuries for the past two years.  It has been great seeing her improvement and dedication to the sport.
  • SUU Invite - Saturday we are headed up to Bicentennial Park in Cedar for the SUU Invitational.  The bus leaves the HS at 6:30a - race schedule is JV girls at 8:00, JV boys at 8:30, Varsity girls at 9:15, Varsity boys at 10:00 and awards after.

Summer Running Club Race Results and Club Info

We have had an amazing Summer Running Club!  We had our most runners ever, our fastest times ever, and (from what all the kiddos are saying) our most Summer Marathons ever!  So, check out the Race Results from July 21st and make sure you are at the final club day on August 4th.  Here is the update list of Summer Club Records - check out all the new records and top times from this summer!

For our 6th-8th graders, we will be holding our Youngster Club throughout the XC season.  Practices will be held Monday, Wednesday and Friday at PVHS from 3:00 - 4:15.  These are supervised practices, with workouts geared toward the overall development of our runners for years to come.  Our PVXC Youngsters program is the top program in the area.  Practices and races will coached/supervised by Coach Martha Baker.  Athletes will need a release form signed and returned before being allowed to compete/participate.  This will be available the first few weeks of practice.

XC Schedule Updates

There have been a few changes to the XC schedule.  Please print out a new one and make sure you are good for each of the dates.

  • Run-A-Thon has moved to Sept 4th-5th (Fri-Sat) after the football game.
  • All Time Trials will be held at the Region South Course (Bloomington Hills North Park) because of construction at PVHS.
  • Time Trial #3 has been moved up to Sept 8th (Tues).
  • We will make the Herriman Invite a team overnighter; our top 48 eligible runners (those who are at every practice, fill out their Week Reports, and basically are on my good side!) will travel to Salt Lake on Friday the 11th and race at Herriman.  We will then stay overnight in Salt Lake and practice at the State Course in Sugarhouse the next morning.
  • The Nebo Invite has been moved to Sept 24th (Thur).  We will still travel up as a team (except the Varsity girls going to Bob Firman) and most will travel back on Thursday night - Varsity boys may stay overnight to practice at the State Course on Friday.
Hopefully that is all the changes!

Camp is Just Around the Corner

High Altitude Camp at Pine Lake is next week!  You can access the packing list here or get one at practice this week.  Please look through it carefully and make sure you are prepared to run a lot, get rained on, become extremely close to your teammates, and have an awesome time!
Please note, that we would like you to have all your big items to Coach Holt's house Sunday evening by 7:00p to get packed into the trailer.

Catch Up Some Weeks - Weeks 4-7

This is kind of the story of my life with any sort of record keeping: journals, blogging, etc...; but we've got some catching up to do!
So here is a bit about what has been going on -
Some great stuff is happening this summer on our team!  We are having more runners, more running, and more team building than ever!  Even through the busy weeks of camps, trips, and moratoriums, the team has been getting in as many minutes as they can and really working on being responsible runners by recording runs on the Week Reports.  We have moved into our biggest mileage stage of our season.  From mid-July to the end of August, we will hit our largest minutes of the year.  So stick in there and get every one of those runs in.  From the long runs and progressions to the easy recovery days, each run is very important.
One of the hardest things to do during a long summer is to stick through the dog days to push toward reaching goals that might not come for months or even years.  Keep positive about your running.  Know that racing will actually start a lot sooner than you think (which also means school will be starting soon!).  And remember that more than any thing else, THE WORK YOU PUT IN THE SUMMER WILL MAKE YOU BECOME THE VERY BEST RUNNER YOU CAN BE!

So having said that, let's celebrate a few of you have been doing a great job and catch up on some Athletes of the Week from the past month.
Jason Hall is a Senior returning Varsity runner.  Jason's hard work and commitment to our program has not only made him a great runner, it has developed him into one of the best examples of what dedication and perseverance can do for a runner.
Ellie Bushar, a Sophomore, is coming off a spectacular Freshman year where she became one of the top distance runners at Pine View.  She became a key scorer by the end of the XC season and kept improving until she earned a State Qualifying time in the 3200m.
Preston Warby, a Senior and returning Captain, is a continued example of the great things that will happen when you work hard in our program.  Preston always reaches out to everyone on the team and helps everyone feel a part of the team.  He is also our top returning 3200m runner.
Macey Widdison, a Senior, has the biggest heart on our team.  Working to overcome health issues, Macey works extremely hard and is never content to be average.
Jake Taylor, a Senior, is our returning #2 runner from last season.  Jake has shown a rededication to doing all the things that propelled him to such a great season last year and is ready for another breakthrough season this year.
Alli Peterson, Junior and Captain, has had a very strong summer.  She has big goals for herself and her team; and has shown through the summer's long hot runs that she will be ready to lead this team to reaching all of them.
Logan Hall, a Sophomore, is part of the fastest Freshman group of boys we have ever had come through Pine View (which is saying quite a bit!).  Just like his great running, Logan's great personality and attitude toward running have really impacted the team in a positive way.
Rylee Holt, an incoming Freshman, looks to be one of the top new runners in the Region.  Rylee has had a lot of success in Youngster running and looks to continue that as she fits right into a great group of girls who are developing a great core of distance strength at PV.

Great job to all of you - Keep it up!

Spirit Pack Order Forms

Hopefully I've got this all together.  If you notice some error, yell at me so we can let everyone know and fix it.
So the best way to do this is to download the Spirit Pack Order Form and print it off.  Then fill out the items you would like to get.  Then bring it to Coach Holt by Friday the 17th. (Late Forms will NOT be accepted!)  No money is due at this time, but what you order you must purchase.  Your fundraiser may help cover the cost.  The first $100 of the fundraiser goes toward the team; the rest may go to your Spirit Pack or even your Participation Fee ($85 due before the first meet of the year).
What do you need to get?  Each athlete must have a uniform top and shorts.  The rest is up to you.  Girls have a choice of black or grey top (as well as loose or tight fit); Varsity girls must have the grey top.  Varsity girls must also have the Boathouse race spandex.  All other girls may choose from any of the short choices.  All boys must have the Jailbreak race top.  The Varsity boys need the Rival 1/2 Split Shorts.  All other boys may choose from any of the short choices.

Week 3

As summer moves along, a huge thanks and great job to all of you who worked so hard to get as many of your runs and minutes in as you could over a very busy week with trek taking a huge portion of our team at the end of the week!
Congrats to our Athletes of the Week for Week 3:
Irene Reynoso - Senior; A 2nd year Captain, Irene is a great example of hard work, leadership and bringing the team together.  There is nothing Irene loves more than this team.
Dallen Gillespie - Junior; Dallen has been around PVXC since he was just a tiny little guy!  His family has a great tradition of being part of our team, and Dallen is taking this tradition to heart and to a new level.  Dallen does all that the coaches ask of him as well as truly taking into daily practice the ideas and philosophies that are taught in our program to make himself and his team the best possible.
Congrats you two!
As we move into Week 4, look to Dallen and Irene as examples of what all of us can do to contribute to our team.  Our focus this week will continue to be using the Energy Index more effectively, getting a daily heart rate, as well as slow and focused 100 Up's.  We really want to (and can) hit our minutes goal of 9500!  But it will take a whole team effort.  We need everyone from Varsity to newbies, Level  3's to Beginner to all get a Week Report created and get your information in daily - and when we do that, we will meet this week's goals as well as many others to come!

Summer Running Club Race Results 6/21/15

The first race of the summer for the Summer Running Club saw some of our best races ever.  Nearly all the races were very close and there were great efforts put in many of the 250+ Kindergarten through 8th Grade runners.  While there were many Top 30 All-Time Records posted in the June 21st Results, the top race was put in by Scottie Bushar, who broke the boys 5th-8th All-Time Record by nearly 12 seconds with a time just fractions of a second over 6 minutes on the difficult 1 mile grass course.  Many great times were also posted by our girls who look to continue and grow the tradition of amazing girls teams at Pine View.

Weeks 1 and 2

The season is off to a GREAT START!  Moving into our 3rd week of practice, we have seen a very large class of Freshman boys and girls who are going to bring awesome attitudes, work ethic, and abilities to our team; we have had two very fun weeks of Kids' Club; and we are attempting to survive the myriad of camps, treks, vacations, and all that other stuff!  We are super proud of all of you who are doing your very best to get your minutes in - and almost all of you really are.
A huge congrats to our girls who took 2nd at the Top of Zion Relay!
Also, Congrats to our Athletes of the Week -
Week 1:
Skylar Abel - Senior.  Chosen as a captain for this season, Skylar is coming off a beast track season where he hit huge PR's in all his events (400, 800, 1600, even the decathlon).  His great attitude and work ethic are paying off huge. Watch for him to make a big push to the boys Varsity team.
Josie Bushar - Junior.  Also a captain, Josie has developed into one of our top distance girls.  She leads the team by example, effort, and with a very positive attitude.  Josie looks to lead the girls to an amazing season this year.

Week 2:
Julien Canales - Freshman.  In his first two weeks, Julien has already shown that he is willing to put in the effort and commitment to become a great distance runner.
Maycee Hayes - Freshman.  Maycee ran with us in XC last year with our MS club.  It has been great to have her back out.  She has a wonderful attitude and brings a level of determination that has already been noticed by her teammates.

Keep up the great work everyone.  Remember to focus on building up the minutes (get your runs in as best you can if you are out of town, get to practice everyday you are in town - 7:00a at Wash. Elem M-R, F locations vary *at Sullivan Park this week*), use your Energy Index to determine where your minutes are, and get good focused 100 Up's in everyday.  And finally, get your Week Reports done.

Just Kidding… One more thing…
High Altitude Camp payment is due now!  You can pay the first $50 or the full $85.  Please just get it done ASAP!
