The team delivered a great birthday present to Coach Holt with a boys victory over Mt. View! Although the course was short (2.8 miles) the times were great and everyone ran well - To get a State equivalent time for this course take the finish time and multiply it by 1.08.
The day started well - after the late people finally showed up to the bus - with the JV girls all running very solid and taking 3rd place - to Cedar and only 4 points off Mt. View. Leading the JV girls were Madisson Hansen, Liz Harrison, MaKayla Baxter, Mia Hart, and Mariah Harris.
Although the Varsity girls didn't have their best race, some positive things did happen. Kaylee Boyer ran well and near the top Mt. View girls throughout the race - finishing 5th overall. As a team the girls finished a solid 4th.
The JV boys really stepped up and answered the 1-3 finish of Mt. View boys with 4 in the top 8 and Jared Ellsworth holding strong to finish up the scoring to with the overall title 39-41. Leading the Panthers with a 4th place finish was Senior Dyllen Cafferty who is making a hard charge for the 7th Varsity spot.
The Varsity boys also defeated Mt. View in thrilling fashion. Mt. View came into the meet ranked #1 in 4A while we were #2 and the race lived up to its billing. The Mt. View pack of 5 was very impressive and finished with a 17 second spread and all in the top 9! But after developing a strong lead throughout the race led by Core Kimzey, PV's lead runners took the top three spots - Trevor Thompson 1st in 14:38 (State equivalent time of 15:48), Tyson Boyer 2nd 14:43 (15:53), Corey Kimzey 3rd 14:47 (15:57). Then our 4 (Ryan Neilsen) and 5 (Devin Gillespie) ran strong and placed well enough (12th and 14th) to hold onto a 2 point victory - 32-34!
Although we still have a lot of work to do - especially in closing up the pack - this was a fun victory and should be a positive step for our program. The Spectrum had a big write-up on the race.
