After a long, hot, and wonderful summer of training, the season is now rolling. Panther harriers had a great showing at the first meet of the year - Cedar All-Comers, held on the same course as last year at Cedar HS (the "new" course) - against the full Region 9 (3A and 4A).
Leading the ladies to a 3rd place finish was Kaylee Boyer with a great 2nd place run after leading pretty much the whole race. This was the best race the girls have had in many years - following Kaylee were Jessica Peterson (8th), Rachel Stone (17th), Rachel Heinrich (18th), and Sierra Worlton (28th) to round out the scoring. Equally impressive was Megan Frodsham's breakthrough race placing 6th on the team and just 11 seconds off Sierra. The ladies were tied with Canyon View for 2nd (but lost the tie-breaker) and beat Snow Canyon (3 time defending Region Champs). Many of the new runners also hit great times and had a good experience in their first race. Great job ladies!
On the guys' side, the "Black Out" was in full effect as the Panthers picked right up where they left off last year recording a near perfect score of 17 and winning by 53 points. Midway through the race Corey Kimzey passed Trevor Thompson and went on to win in a time of 15:53. Following Trevor's 2nd place finish, Tyson Boyer pulled out a furious last mile to take 3rd, narrowly out-leaning Cedar's Danny Stevenson. The boys finished off the scoring with Devin Gillespie (5th) and Michael Finch (6th) running strong races. A congrats also to Casey Kimzey for taking the early season 7th Varsity spot. Like the ladies, many young guys did a great job in their first races - good work.
The Spectrum finally got a write-up on the race (8/17) so check it out at PV Nearly Hits High Mark - you do have to be a registered user to read the whole thing - sorry.
