On Tuesday the 17th, 60 Panther harriers braved the 108 degree heat to run a 2 mile team time trial. The first race of the afternoon was the middle school race. Each of the kids ran their mile great and earned a ribbon for their effort - good job each of you; keep coming out (and bring some friends!).
The high schoolers were split into 2 teams (black and silver) and assigned a level based on ability. The scoring for the meet was a cumulative total for the top #1, #2, and #3 runners both boys and girls for each team. Kaylee Boyer representing the silver team set the pace with a very solid 13:21 for the overall win. The top #1 for the black team was Rachel Stone who finished 3rd overall behind Kaylee and Jessica Peterson. The surprise of the meet was Mariah Harris' top finish for the #2 silver team (this was easily her best run yet!). Leading the #2 black was Kylee Becker with a solid 8th place overall finish. Another great run was posted by Mia Hart who really put the black team into the lead with a good race for the #3 girls. Stephanie Rimmasch led the #3 girls for the silver team.
The boys race was led by Trevor Thompson (silver) throughout. His 10:20 on the hilly grass/dirt course (in the extreme heat) was a very strong time. Tyson Boyer, however, did not let his black team down finishing 2nd just 15 seconds behind Trev. The rest of the boys varsity did very well and closed the spread that we saw develop at Cedar last week. The top #2 boys were Dyllen Cafferty (silver) who ran his best XC race maybe ever and Morgan Wood - finishing just behind Cowboy. Both will be pushing Casey this year for that final Varsity spot. Matthew Young placed first for the #3 silver team, but he could not make up the big gap in the overall standings created by Byron Warby when he won the #3 boys spot for black well ahead of many #2's!
Overall the times turned out to be Silver 87:21 and Black 86:46.
The event was a lot of fun, and provided a opportunity for our runners to run in front of parents and friends at PV for the only time this season.
Also, thanks to all the parents that came to the parents' meeting afterword. It was very productive and didn't take too long!
