Nov. 2 - 7 (Week 23)

Great job at State everyone... racers, Hype Squads, parents and friends thanks for coming up. Now we transition to our post-season stuff. Like we've said many time, this is an important time to keep working out. We know some of you are headed to winter sports, so go have fun and crush it (it would be great if somehow you could find a way to build in consistent running within your schedule, but that might be different for everyone - talk to coaches for ideas). The rest of you, let's keep it rolling! We'll take some time off in December, but we're in great shape right now so let's keep building on it.

Purpose of the Week's Workouts: Click here for a link to this week's workouts. Two goals for the week: get the body and mind moving again, and test our fitness at the Autumn Classic. Use the Weekly Minutes form to go enter the number of days you ran and your total minutes from this past week (Week 22 - this will be our last week of counting minutes for our season minutes awards, so get them updated).

PVXC Thought of the Week: "Teach us to care and to not care."
- T.S.Eliot
On Sunday, Jess McClain became the highest placing American woman at the NYC Marathon since 2017. In 2020 she almost quit running because it had lost much of it's fun. She had just signed a professional contract and, to her, running seemed to become more about winning and chasing times than the joy she come to love from running. Six years later, she was able to come back and beat some of the world's all-time bests because she allowed herself to change her attitude. She let go of the attitude that she had to win everything and always set PRs to allowing herself to love running for the personal joy of pushing her limits, connecting with friends, and competing with others. Going into the race she said that an American woman was going to be on the podium. She didn't know if it was going to be her, but if it wasn't she was going to help someone else do it. In doing so, she had mastered the art of caring without caring. To become your very best, you MUST care... if you don't care, you won't put the effort it, you'll sleep in, you'll let other areas of your life lapse and interfere with your thinking and effort; but at the same time, caring about the result CANNOT be the only thing... if so, you'll be so locked into the result that you will rarely reach what you want. Care about effort. Care about teammates. Care about mental and physical health. Care about growth and progress. Care about having fun. And, like Jess McClain, you'll see amazing things happen in your life.

Our Middle School program: Because our HS season has ended, Youngsters are invited to join us any days they would like.

Race Reports: State (including pics) and JV State race reports are coming soon.

Alumni Report: Congrats to three of our PVXC alumni for competing in their respective conference championships this last weekend. Sariah ran well for Snow and placed 5th for the Badgers. Avery finished up her conference season with a solid run for UNLV. And Trey was the #2 runner for UVU and took 5th place overall in helping the Wolverines take 2nd at the Big West Championships.
