PVXC Thought of the Week: "Before his tragic death Kobe Bryant was asked: 'Do you love to win or hate to lose?' 'I'm neither,' he responded. 'I play to figure things out. I play to learn something.'"
-Brad Stulberg
Stulberg calls this the difference between the Finite Game and the Infinite Game. He explains that the Finite game is time-bound and there are winners and losers. However, the Infinite Game knows no end. The only goal is to keep playing, learning, and discovering. All the greats have learned that the Infinite Game is every bit as important as the Finite one. When you fixate on just winning and losing, or some other external outcome you become fragile and can't enter the flow state. But when you adopt a mindset of curiosity and growth, it relieves pressure and helps you stay anchored. Take a minute and think about your running... why do you do it? Are you running to win (or not lose) or are you doing it to help you figure yourself out and to learn things about yourself and who you are and can become?
Race Report:
The 24th 2 Miler was this past week and we appreciate all the support and the food donations to the Utah Food Bank. We had growing family and community support which was great, too. We're often missing some teammates at this race, so results are a little skewed. Nonetheless, we had some good marks (Race has been run since 2019). Vanessa recorded our 13th fastest time, Brooklyn 28th, and a big group showed our growing depth in the 40s. 4 girls made Top 10 for their grade: Brooklyn 2nd and Avery 8th for Freshmen, Claire 10th for Sophomore, and Vanessa 8th for Seniors. On the boys' side, Elliot moved into the Top 10 overall with the 8th best time (6th for Srs.), and Will D and Will P were 18th and 19th all-time (Dursty 10th Sr. and Price 8th Jr.). Results. Records.
Athletes of the Week:
Suzy, Sophomore - Her positive attitude and dedication are contributing to an amazing Sophomore class.
Liam, Sophomore - He has always worked extremely hard and this summer has really started locking in on some of his goals.
Braxton, Freshman - He has shown tremendous group through his first summer of running.
