July 5-17 (Week 5 & 6)

Great efforts from so many these past couple weeks. We were able to recognize our first set of Athletes of the Week (more below); take a look at those who have been earning this recognition and notice the similar characteristics of dedication, commitment, and pushing toward new goals. These teammates are great examples of what we can all do. We'll include the next two weeks in this post. This week is Commitment Week. It is the state moratorium, so coaches can't be at practice. The team has decided to have captain led practice. Those that are in town, be there. If you're out of town (just like anytime), get your runs in as best you can. We have a lot of events coming up soon, so take a look at everything on the blog.

  • take a look at the 2021 schedule. There have been a couple changes: Border Wars (Sept 24 - varsity trip) and time has been updated for PreState Meet
  • registermyathlete - registration has got to be done tonight if you haven't yet! Go to registermyathlete.com - physical needs to be complete and on file at PVHS before camp.
    Fees can be completed later.
Purpose of the Week's Workouts: This week's workouts. These next two weeks, we continue in our Foundation phase. Week 5 is actually a recovery week with no minute growth (or even a small decrease) to help the body and mind respond to the first month of the season. Week 6 sees a continuance of growth with more minutes and doubles for some of the team. Both weeks, we will use our Baseline test to get into some Pace work. Paces are posted on the workout spreadsheet (refer back to Week 4); know yours for Monday.

If you haven't finalized your plans, we really encourage you to come be part of camp. This is where you make friendships; this is where our team comes together; this is where so much of our growth really cements itself. Come be part of it! Parents: we will need rides and if anyone wants to stay and help chaperone any or all of the time please let the coaches know.

Minutes:
Fill out this form for our 4th week of practice and then come back next week and update it for the 5th week. This is how we will earn our minutes awards for the season as well as tracking goals and progress.

Book Club:
No book club this Wednesday; we will discuss the readings for the next two weeks on July 13th. So keep reading along.

Athletes of the Week:
Carson, So. - Carson's commitment to the team has resulted in tremendous individual growth. He's a great worker and brings a great attitude to the team.
Parker, So. - Parker's great attitude and hard work have really started to pay off with big improvements so far this season.
Kenny, Jr. - It's been great to have Kenny back with the team. His presence has immediately been felt this summer through his hard work and positive attitude.
Brecken, So. - Brecken is another athlete who we've missed (because of another spring sport). Her progress through last year and this summer has been amazing. She's running great and is an excellent contributor to the team.
Laney, So. - Laney's commitment to her improvement hasn't gone unnoticed. She has taken tremendous strides of improvement by deciding to push with the group above her at every possible time.
Brinley, Sr. - Brin's is running excellently, but just as important is her senior leadership that she is bringing to the team. No one works harder and expects the same from her teammates.

PVXC Thought of the Week:
"It's what you do when no one is watching that separates a champion from everyone else."
-unknown
A little diversion from our book quotes this week. But rather, a nod to our Commitment Week. Many of you have already proven you have truly bought into the program and into your self; you are at practice every day you can, you're on time, you get your full runs in, do you weights and drills well, and so on. Others fall at other levels of this commitment scale. This coming week, where there are no coaches and you are really accountable to yourself and your teammates will really show where you want to be and what you want to accomplish individually and a team. Those who are doing great... keep being the example. Those who are struggling in some areas... now's the time to step up. When you're in town... be to practice. When you're out of town... get your runs in. We've had a truly great start to the season and many very good things are happening. Let's take it to another level with your own individual commitment to team and self this week!
