It was great to get our first race in (finally!). There's always a lot we can learn from our racing. So we encourage each of you to take a minute and think about things that went well and things that you would like to focus on for the future.
ANOTHER Spirit Pack can be found here. Like before, none of this gear is required; it is available for athletes, family, friends, supporters...
Any new athletes need to complete your registration - registermyathlete/activate.
And we would love to have anyone new join our team. Think about a few people you could personally invite from your classes or neighborhood.
Our Middle School program is struggling to find anyone interested in coaching. The commitment isn't too big (really whatever you'd like it to be, maybe 2-3 afternoons a week from 3:00-4:15'ish) and you don't have to know much about running/coaching (we will help you with workouts and whatever as much as you'd like). If you know of anyone, please point them in our direction. Also, if you would like to register for any of the races noted below (that have MS races) please reach out to Coach Holt at david.holt@washk12.org.
For now we will start having some practices this week (we are planning on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday at 3:05p meeting by the sign in front of the high school). This is a developmental camp hosted by our HS and is available for 6th-8th graders.
Purpose of the Week's Workouts: Click here for a link to this week's workouts. We'll be on our normal school schedule with a little change for Wednesday's race (see the workout spreadsheet). Use the Weekly Minutes form to go enter the number of days you ran and your total minutes from this past week (Week 12).

PVXC Thought of the Week: "In the Tokyo Olympic high jump final, one athlete sat down after every single attempt and wrote in a small green notebook. She left with a silver medal and a national record."

We just had our first full XC race and this is a great time to reflect on how things went. Doing this in your mind is helpful, but taking a few minutes and writing down your thoughts is even more effective in helping you grow. This post tells us that "when researches gave people a choice between practicing more and sitting with what they had just done, 82% chose to practice. The ones who stopped and reflected outperformed them." An example: "At a call center in India, workers who spent their last 15 minutes each day writing about what they had learned scored 23% higher on the final test. (And in total) They trained 15 minutes less than everyone else (per day)." So after this first race (and really after every day) take a few minutes and reflect. Write down what went well, what you learned, what you'd like to improve on and create a plan to make that improvement. You can do the same thing in other areas of your life and you'll see marked growth there as well - school would be a great place to try this. Have a hard class? Take some time each day to reflect on what you learned and how it went. Research shows you'll learn more and actually do it more efficiently and quicker than other ways of study.
Race Report:
Cedar City Invite - The vibes were high and the races were fast. Great job everyone. The ladies started us off with a strong TEAM performance. One of the coolest things of the meet was seeing members of our TEAM pushing themselves harder than they ever have and harder than they thought they could. The girls ended up taking a solid 4th place with Vanessa placing 6th and Tevye 10th. Brooklyn (20th), Aly (24th), and Claire (34th) rounded out our scoring. Many other awesome performances were run by our team as well including Rylee, Lydia, Jenevieve, and Ginger. The boys used TEAM packing to run a great season opener and take the win. We had 4 in the top 10 and 8 in the top 17: Benji (2nd), Elliot (3rd), Dustin (6th), Nate (8th), Will D (12th), Tyler (13th), Will P (16th), and Brennan (17th). There were a lot of other great performances from the guys including Nathan, Sebastian, and Bennett. Very good racing after a long summer of hard work everyone.
Athletes of the Week: Congrats to Braxton, Lydia, and Miles on earning PVXC Athletes of the Week last week.
