Oct. 10-15 (Week 19)

We just want to say that we are very proud of this team and the hard work that each of you are putting in. A team can't be great without the individual parts working, committing, and doing hard things each and every day as we move to a common goal. Often people look at XC, and running in general, as an individual sport. But those who know, know that it is more of a team sport than most anything out there. We are nothing without each person on this team contributing and making us what we are.

*NEXT YEAR HIGH ALTITUDE CAMP* JULY 17-20 AT JACOB LAKE - make your plans now.

Summer Moratorium will be June 28-July 4

Some other important announcements:

  • Nike SW Regional (NXR) - We will have our $100 down payment due on October 12th - that is this WedsPlease pay with cash to Coach Holt or by Venmo to @Dave-Holt77 by then. The final total will be $155 if you'd like to pay the full cost right now (includes, bus, hotel, and registration).
  • Those interested in going to Foot Locker/Eastbay/Champs (whatever else it wants to be called) in California in December, we should start planning that a bit too. We are thinking maybe some parents would like to drive and we can take 15-20 kids who might want to go. Give us some feedback if you want to go (athletes) or may want to help drive/chaperone (parents).

Race Report:
Cedar Invite - It was a beautiful fall day for XC. It was awesome to see so many improvements from the year (even compared to last week). Congrats to our whole Youngsters team and a huge thanks to Coach Martha for running the program and building the next generation. The first race was the Girls Varsity; faced with a little adversity, they responded very well: Brook ran a strong race and placed 2nd overall to lead the team to a 2nd place finish; she was followed by Kate in 6th, Katie in 11th, Adri in 12th, and Brianna making her Varsity debut as the 32nd scorer. The Varsity Boys continue to see good growth: Trey is setting a great example of hard work and commitment as well as mental toughness and it is paying off with another win; Talmage followed up with a big breakthrough sub 16 to take 13th, Bridger followed with a 22nd place, Porter 23rd, Kyler27th, Diego 36th, and Dane placed 43rd; the team placed a very solid 4th. The JV Girls were next: we had two medalists with Brecken 3rd and Laney 4th, and the team took 4th. The JV boys took 3rd led by Keaton in 9th and then a solid pack of Evan, Gaige, Parker, Carson and Grant. Our final races were the Fresh/Soph races. The girls didn't have enough racers to score but all three (Olivia, Rowyn, and Bella) ran very well. The boys took 3rd: despite some runner misdirection that cost Bender a few places and probably around 15-20 secs he officially took 9th (and 2nd Freshman, could have been 1st?), Liam placed 13th and was a top 5 Freshman, AJ did tremendous to place 22nd, then Jake led a strong pack with his 29th, Ian 30th, Ben 34th. Here's a spreadsheet that shows the improvements of the team throughout the year on this Cedar course. (Also note, the large improvements for many members of the team from their first race at Cedar earlier in their HS careers.. no doubt some of the biggest improvements in the future will be from the the Freshman - those mentioned and others - who have really just had an amazing season). PV Full results for all our races can always be found at athletic.net

Alumni Update:
Julien ran for Utah Tech at the SUU Invite and improved upon his time from last year by around 40 seconds. Coach Jason also ran in the alumni race and took the DUB! Some PVXC legends also joined in the SUU alumni race with school record holder Mike Finch running and State Champion Dave Sheeran also racing.

PVXC Thought of the Week:
"Today many will break through the barriers of the past by looking at the blessings of the present
."
-Steve Mariboli
We're going to talk a little about break throughs on Monday, and I thought this was a cool quote that goes along with it in a way. So put your own thoughts into this, and let's be ready to share something about it tomorrow.
