Oct 19-24 (Week 21)

It's finally here, State week! We've missed having our full team around this past week, and we really appreciate the sacrifice of those not racing at State have made to take off some time from full team activities to help ensure we are able to stay healthy and compete at full strength this Wednesday at State in Cedar. So a couple things to look for below: info about the State meet and busing (and needing to have some of the JV crew drive up on their own), info about practice after State and info about post-season races.

Purpose of the Week's Workouts: This week's workouts - We will continue to have just the Varsity crew meet for Mon-Wed. After State we look forward to having the WHOLE TEAM back together for some recovery runs for a few days and then refocus on the next goal.

Minutes:
Keep updating your minutes (we will cut this off on the day of State). Please use this form and update your minutes and set a goal for yourself for this coming week (the more specific the goal the better). This is how we will earn our minutes awards for the season.

Upcoming Events:
Race - 4A State Championships: Oct. 21st at Cedar HS. Girls 5:00p, Boys 5:30p - bus leaves the HS at 3:00p - Freshmen: we will come pick you up at 2:30 (out of class at 2:20 and be out front for your rides).

Postseason Races: a few post season meets have been organized (that could replace our usual longer trips out of state).
    >We will be having the Autumn Classic (a 2 mile on the track vs. DH on 10/29 at _____)... date not finalized yet, time and location TBA (evening, around like 6 or 7:00 at PV or DH)
    >The Border Wars Utah Qualifier is on Nov. 7th in Spanish Fork - if we want to make this a team trip with a charter bus and all that we can... We would leave Fri (Nov. 6) after school and head up to Utah County and then return after the races on Sat evening. We are putting the costs together for this. Varsity crews will be heading up to this race for sure.
    >We will also probably be having a race (maybe a two-miler) on the Staheli Farm course between the BWQualifier and the BW to help test out the course... date and time TBA
    >The Border Wars (Utah vs. Colorado) is scheduled for Nov. 21st here in St. George at Staheli Farms. You have to qualify for this meet as a team through the Utah qualifier.

Bus for State: Our bus holds 55. With the 15 runners (and alternate) plus the 4 coaches, that leaves 36 spots on the bus. Here's who we have listed as coming to State based on who came to the team meeting to organize Hype Squads last Monday (look for your name on this list): Carson, Zak B, Gaige, Tyler, Porter, Isaac, Zack DT, Hyrum, Dane, Nick, Nathan H, Grant, Kyler, Allen, Ben, Timmy, Elijah, Gianno, Carter, Parker, Coleman, Dalton, Talmage, Karli, Macy, Allison. Katie, Amelia, Mikaela, Brecken, Laney, Taylor, Kate, Rayne, Hannah, Aliana, Sadie, Brianna, Emma and Madeline. So that's 40 of you... meaning, we need 4 from this crew to see if they could drive up or something. Please talk this out and share it around with teammates. Maybe someone could (with parent permission) drive or a few people could get with some friends who are also going... please text Coach ASAP so this can get worked out and we can get as many of our teammates up to the race as possible.

Youngsters:
Final practice is Thursdays Oct. 22nd (practice/team party) 3:00-4:15 at PVHS. Youngsters, you guys are great! Can't wait to see you in PV jerseys soon.

PVXC Thought of the Week:
"The whole game is predicated on players playing for each other, feeling the responsibility for each other and performing."
-Greg Popovich
One of the greatest basketball coaches of all-time, Pop could have been talking about any sport... but especially XC. There truly is no greater team sport than XC. After months and months of hard work, sweat, tears, pain and joy, seven of you toe the line at the State Championships. You can't rely on your best runner to just do most of the work and you'll coast along. No coach can yell you through to victory (or call a timeout if things aren't going so well). It's just you and your teammates out there, trying to do the very best you can for each other. And when you care about each other, when you realize that you each have a responsibilty, and that your job, your place, your race is just as important as the other six on the team, you dig deep - deeper than you ever have - and you go do the very best that you can on that given day because you care about everyone that you are on that line with, you appreciate them, and you love them.
